(San Juan Record) -- nvr Atomic insurance Given Close Study Survey Denver Bureau A high level insurance man in New York this week asserted that new government influence in the insurance field is foreshadowed by development of a civilian atomic energy industry. Maurice Herndon, Washington representative of the National Associatio of Insurance Agents, declared that estimates of needed coverage in atomic energy would top $100 million. Herndon told the American Management Associations spring insurance meeting that more powerful means of destruction in times of war, with potential war damage problems apparently beyond any known system of insurance, may also extend federal influence. Herndon said: Its certainly the mightiest problem the insurance industry has ever faced.. But you can be sure the insurance industry recognizes its responsibilities and is actively seeking the soluton to the titanic problem of atomic insurance. The possibility that mercury has been discovered on Big Indian Uranium Companys tungsten claims near Mina, Nevada, arose today with the arrival of Joseph Hafen, Big Indians general manager and a group of geologists headed by Alfred M. Buranek, of Cramer and Buranek, at Mina. The geologists are under instructions to prepare a complete report of their findings after an exhaustive investigation of the property. The action resulted from a suggestion by Gordon Young, a director of the company before a recent directors meeting, which voted approval of the suggestion. The claims in Nevada constitute the old Jesse Knight property, which originally patented for gold and silver. Hafen said, on leaving for Mina, that appearances of the land indicates a mercury reserve.
