Show Friday, August UTAH VALLEY NEWS Utah Valleyaanhi News FuhlUhrt swir UTAH ni Utah. n4v tt Act V ALLAY Frtrtr FUnUSHlNQ Nmhr rt IS. MuA L 171. hr C& Utah rm, rtfin rt INI at pmt The Value of Advertising to the Consumer: Thousands of dollars are lost annually to the consumers of Provo, and surrounding communities, through ignoring the advei rising in our local papers. TJany merchants have observed this fact and pointed to instances of loss to purchasers. Most recently is a case In point irorr. Butler's. By inserting a test ad. in both local papers on a well known item which contained a liberal discount to any person who had read the ad. the purchaser could obtain this discount by merely mentioning the ad. in question. The resulas were astonishing. Ten to one of this same things for home adornment, food you eat, and many other articles of daily need. I rovos stores are loaded with merchandise that many people do not even know are carried. Heres another case in point from Butlers. Two ladies were waiting to be served at a local beauty parlor, and a thir: lady, friendly to Butlers, reports this conversation: First Lady : "I have to go to Salt Lake to buy my hose. hose, for I wear the also but I do not. need Second Lady: "I wear to go to Salt Lake to buy them. First Lady: "Where do you get them? Second Lady: At Butlers."-FirLady: "Butlers jnust have only recently put them in. Second Lady: "Ive been buying them there for the part four years. Dont you ever raid the ads? The point is: Had the First Lady read the ads. and there have been many of them, she could have saved herself a lot of trouble, and at the same time been spending her money in Provo to help build Provo. Money spent with home institutions stays at home. Follow .vour own dollar around and you will discover that' it pays a lot of dollar obligations when spent at home, but if you spend it out of town: Bingo, its gone for No-Me- Baptisms Sunday City Engineer Statement Shoos Adverts Resents False Statements ing Costs Paid hy City Sharon ward will ba la charge of the regular baptlamal aenrice Sunday at I p. m. which will be held for both boya and girls of the pharoa atake at tha Utah Stake Administration building In Provo. No-Me- st item were sold at Butler's at the regular price as against the test offering. Thg same goods, the same prices, every thi&g the same, except that to mention the ad. or to bring it clipped from the papers, would have given the buyer a substantial discount. This ad., inserted in I wlh local papers, was a fair test, but the results were practically the same. This sort of thing makes many a merchant wonder if he is throwing away his advertising money. Provo enjoys good local pajierg. They carry much local, state, news. Society sections tell what you and inter-stat- e ' want to know about your friends, sport sections inform other Utah in front and states, you of sport activities page news gives you a comprehensive picture of worldwide and local news items. All these things should be ead by all if we would keep abreast of the times. But from an economic point of view, you must also read the ads. It means money in your pockets, and at the same time you get information about things you wear, good. 'Finally may we remind our readers that it costs the merchants real money to carry a message in the newspapers. It costs the CONSUMERS a. lot of real money when they do not read these messages. You can prove the truth of this statement yourself by just a little investigatloa. It ig. infact the loyalty and keenness of many of our citizens which makes this such a desirable town in which to live. You also help make this community of ours moje worth while by doing just such a little thing as reading the ads in the local papers. Besides you save your self money everytime n you d? so.
