P. electric motor is being installed. This pump should deliver into the city water mains whatever pressure necessary to maintain in the lines an additional water supply of slightly more than one second foot. The pump will not be in continuous operation, but will be set to go into action whenever the pressure in the city lines falls to a point where extra water is needed to keep the desired pressure in the city system. Just what this pressure point is has not been determined yet. Asst. State Engineer R. F. Jerliday, who advised the city with respect to the depth ne-- j cessary to get the right amount' of water and of the best quality. says the well is one of th best in the state. It is also his opinion that the same water supply which is tapped by ar tosian wells in the Geneva Steel area is now being reached in the city well. Blue Clay Encountered. The drill log of the well shows that in addition to the sand and gravel on the surface that more than 100 feet of blue clay was penetrated in addition to 40 feet of gravel hard pan before water was struck in the 60 feet of river gravel. The bottom of the casing rests on a layer of clay. The casing was perforated in the 60 foot section of river gravel with three-fou-r thsinch perforations. With this perforation only artesian water will get into the pipe which should assure water of it high quality. Water samples have been sent to the State chemist but at this writng no report of the test had been received. The water is ch ar without any trace of sediment.
