The opening of the new Safeway store in Magna January 14th recalls the fact that Safeway itself was born in the West in the neighboring state of Idaho. In 1915 M. B. Skaggs opened the first Safeway store at American Falls, Idaho. All of the early expansion of the Great Safeway organization occurred in the Intermountain area.
