FOUNDER OF UTAH COPPER DIES AT AGE 86 TUESDAY (Continued Frem Page 1) In politics, he was a member of the Republican party. His competent and steadfast associates found Gen. Jackling loyal and solicitious of their welfare. He was quick to recognize ability and reward it. To quote him: One of the hardest things to find is a man who works wholeheartedly in the interest of his employers." In turn, others respected the ability and the genius of Mr. Jackling. One of the finest tributes ever paid him came on the occasion of his accepting the Saunders Gold Medal award of the American Institute of Mining and Metallurgical Engineers. In late years, Mr. Jackling spent much of his time at his home in Woods ide, San Mateo County, CaL, although seldom a day passed that he did not go to his office in downtown San v should not be effected. He summed up the situation this way: "Sooner or later, I knew that we would have to take them, or they would have to take us." In 1010, with Mr. Jackling taking the initiative, Utah Copper took over the holding of Boston Con solidated on a cash plus stock basis. Due to the success of Utah Copper and, more directly, to Mr. Jackling's pioneering in porphyry ores, other major copper deposits of the West were opened up for production. An operating genius as well, he headed the Nevada Consolidated Copper company, the Ray Consolidated Copper company of Arizona, and the Chino Copper company of New low-gra- Mexico.
