But, warns the National Board of Fire Underwriters, fire never takes a holiday. As a matter of fact, Christmas seems to be one of the times when fire takes the greatest delight in going wild. One added danger during the season is the Christmas tree, with its electric wiring and dry leaves Sometimes cords are frayed some people put their tree too near the fireplace. And some, the Board of Fne Underwriters says, still put candles on the tree. This seems like going out of the way to invite trouble. The board warns against all these practices, and adds these: 1. If you are playing host, make sure there arc enough as'n'rays for every room in the house. 2. See that the stove is clean and ready for the big cooking job. 3. If some of your guests are children, put all matches, cigarettes, lighters and other dangerous objects safely out of their reach. I understand such a possibility is being studied. It really is not the best financial investment in the world to have our schools used about half of the year and that is all it to when one considers and counts the holidays that arc allowed. e We are paying for education, but are getting only part-tim- e returns, according to n educators, who further state that they believe the extended school year would help to better prepare youngsters for college and to face the world. Suggestions have been made that the school year begin about August 20th and end June 15th. What do you think?
