Jones, is retiring after almost 50 years in the busipaper and printing-suppl- y ness. What memories and affection his name evokes! Mr. Jones, manager of the Western Newspaper Union for many years, was one of the people who made it possible for me to purchase this printing plant and newspapers when I was 22 years du-.ism- old. It wa through his wonderful recommendations and the help of my good friends, the late J. C. Denton, Bill Allen, then manager of the Magna First Security Bank, S. J. Quinney, my regarded attorney and George Eccles, that money was loaned to purchase the Copper Printing Company. Through the years until Mr. Jones was promoted as manager of the huge Harry W. Brintnall Company in San Francisco, he remained one of my best friends. He is one of God's great men. loved by all. Once be said to me: I like people. Could he help but be successful and loved with such philosophy? Another time he remarked, when I laughingly told him he was Well, a wonderful salesman: Edith, a sale is not a good sale unless the customer is happy with his purchase. I try to treat the smallest buyer with the same courtesy and attention because the small buyer may someday be the large buyer. So, Johnny Jones, may you have the happiest of retirement with your devoted family, and I'll be traveling soon to San Francisco to see all of you! The discovery was made by his father, James M. Hays, at 6:20 a.m. The youth, a graduate of Cyprus high school, had been pinned under the car all night. According to deputy sheriffs Mcrl Coon and Dell Sheppick, the youth had been working on his eutumobile Thursday afternoon. He told his parents he was going swimming with some friends, but had apparently returned to work on his car, parked some 500 feet behind his house in a grove of trees. to investigating According authorities, the youth probably died of strangulation. Hays was born March 18, 1934, in Salt Lake City, a son of James Monroe and Naomi Swift Hays. The family moved to Magna in 1941. He was a graduate of Cyprus high school, where he was active in track and basketball. Besides his parents, he !s survived by two brothers and three sisters: Corporal Janies D. Hays, Camp Hanford, Washington; Mrs. Kathleen Anthony, Garfield; Mrs. Naomi-De- e Bosen, Marilyn Hays and Wayne Hays, Magna; his grandparents: D. L. and Stella D. Hays, with whom the youth resided for some time, and a greatgrandmother, Mrs. Adrian C. Swift, Janesville, Wisconsin. Sincere sympathy is extended to the bereaved family. red is consistent with the wide use of red as a special warning of danger and the universal use of the red light as a stop signal. DAD ON CARNIVAL IS PLANNED BY MAGNA BIDS LETS HERE ON OPERATION Sunday-Scho- ol superintendency, teachers and a special committee headed by Dun Jeppson, chairman, are completing arrangements for a big Carnival on Saturday, June 26th. All of the event will be held at the churchg rounds, beginning at 6:00 p. m, to include games, horseback riding, sale of goodies, cakes, etc. The event is for the Sunday-Schofund, and a most welcome invitation is extended to everyone for their attendance. Bookkeeping, Collecting and Operation Let Out On Bids The Magna Water Company trustees granted contracts to three individuals effective July 1, 1954 to operate the Magna Water Company on a contract basis. This decision was reached at a public meeting Tuesday night. Vera Jones was granted the bid for keeping the accounts which she will do in her huine. Mr. T. W. Jones was granted the contract for collecting accounts. He will have an office in the front of Goldie's Shoe Shop, to provide Magna Water customers with a central location to pay their bills. These two contracts will enable the Magna Water to operate at a saving of over $3,000 annually, and the trustees feel that these savings to Magna shareholders will prove most lucrative. Also effective July 1, statements will be rendered quarterly, instead of monthly as in the past. Steve Rokieh was given the contract for maintenance and operation, including the general delivery of water to homes and businesses. Further savings anticipated under this plan. ol TO REIGN SUPREME FATHERS DAY On Sunday, June 20th, Dad will reign supreme with the annual observance of Fathers Day-- 24 of the 8,760 hours of the year he can call his own. Note: Question 5. Some of the teachers are concerned as to What their retirement rights will be in the event of the three colleges to the Church. Will you kindly inform ine as to what retirements they will have? ANSWER. We have not, of course, formulated any retirement policy for the three colleges in question nor can we be expected to do so until we know the outcome of the November election. We would expect, however, to pattern the retirement system now in effect at the Brigham Young University which, we are informed, is the most favorable retirement system of any University in the State. Tiie teachers at that institution, in addition to having the benefits of the Federal Social Security, pay 5 of their annual salary into a teachers retirement fund. This 5' is matched by the Church. The combination of two provides a very good retirement system for faculty members. Question 6. It was alleged during the campaign to obtain signatures to the referendum petition that if the three institutions were returned to the Church, veterans would not be able to obtain the same educational advantages and privileges as if (he same institutions were maintained by the State. Will you kindly inform me whether this is a correct state, ment? ANSWER. The statement you not correct report . is Veterans of World War If and of the Korean War have the same educational benefits in Church schools as in State schools. At the Hrighiun Young University, for instance, the tuition and fees of veterans of World War I! were paid by the government in the same way as at state institutions. Veterans of the Korean War who desire to pursue higher education are paid certain educational benefits direct to them by the Government, and may use these benefits as they see fit for tuition in either private or state schools. 7. Would the QUESTION Church include vocational education in its curriculum for these institutions? ANSWER. We answer this question in the affirmative.
