Show -- Read Jill if It in The Timeg or Leader- - CHATTER finTtyTevenUTyear' Howf The reason a fool and his money" are soon parted is easy to understand, but the burning question is how did the pair get together in the first place? School Teacher's Story Ive laughed all week about this story told by a Brockbank teacher: The lady was sitting in the bus and a man got on and sat next to her. She looked at him and asked, "Aren't you the father of one of my children?" The man looked aghast, got up and moved a few seats away without saying a word. That evening she told the incident to her husband, who said: But didn't you tell him that you are a school teacher? It won't be long until the weather changes and the insects who have their inning when the family has an outing, will be ended. Remember-- if your ship really does come in Uncle Sam will be there in the form of a tax collector to greet you. Can it be that no one is interested in your troubles? You could start being interested in others' troubles and then the tide may turn. Scare Talk Even conservative columnists, perhaps for want of better copy, are beginning to make scare talk about our future. The American people have thrived and flowered on adversity in the past, and we shall continue to do it despite the pessimists and the lovers of defeat and regimentation. To anyone who might say our morale is low because we are in revolt against silly diplomacy, trickery and espionage, we would say: "American morale is never so high as when we are in rebellion against wrong and tyranny." Grandmother Revolts I talked to a fine grandmother this week who is almost revolting against taking care of her grandchildren in a constant manner. I don't blame her and would like to reassure grandparents about those wonderful, loveable, little tykes that sometimes happen to be grandchildren. Its not a sin that you do not find any joy in watching thorn turn your dignified home into a Wild West range and topple over your Dresden dolls. Many another grandmother feels just like you da You see, it was never really intended in our fast age that a grandmother should stand up against a spaceman. A young mother can do it She has the nerves and battered sofas for it You want peace and quiet You want your meals without constant interruptions to correct a childa manners. You want your conversation without children tugging at your skirts and yelling. So, J., don't reproach yourself if you secretly wish your grandchildren would run off somewhere until they're 20 years old. Your feelings are human and normal. nerve-shatteri- The Complete Home Newspaper Garfield, Utah, Friday, September 18, 1953 Number 13 LOCAL MOTORISTS URGED 300 WORKERS CYPRUS MEETS NATIONAL SOFTBALL TO PROTECT STUDENTS RENEW JOBS AT REFINERY SPR1NGV1LLE MAGNA FOOTBALLERS MISS NANCY LARSON NAMED NATIONAL Garfield Refinery Starts To Restore Normal Operations Pirates Meet Gridders Under the Lights At 8:00 Oclock Kennccott Copper Corporation officials Monday evening reported a satisfactory start" had lxcn made to restore the Garfield refinery to normal operating conditions. Two Thousand Potential Child Hazards The sheriffs office Tuesday asked local motorists to help protect the approximately 2,000 youngsters who have started to cross streets on their way to their different schools. The Magna and Garfield sheriffs warn that the number of students this year is the largest in history and the cooperation of motorists in and out of school zones is more important than ever. Sheriffs are patrolling and closely watching the driving around Cyprus high school, and will give tickets to offenders if they speed or are reckless. Motorists were especially urged to obey directions of junior paand trolmen from the schools maintain vigilance not only at all school crossings but also in any where children neighborhood might be walking. Speed limits in marked zones is 20 mph. But this doesn't mean a motorist can drive that fast if other conditions don't permit such speed. Drivers going too fast for existing conditions will be arrested even if they are not traveling the speed limit. Officers of the Brockbank Association, headed by Mrs. Keva Brown, president, met Friday at the school and discussed several items they deemed necessary for the school and welfare of students. Included in the suggestions were a black cut tain to darken llie rooms and show educational movies and a bicycle rack to accommodate students' bicycles. Several ways to realize the money for the purchase of these items were discussed. The officers later met with Clark Frei, principal and faculty members were introduced.
