Many of the persons who filled the pubs were British soldiers and it was speculated that the explosions were the work of the outlawed Irish Republican Army. Immediately after the blasts, police sealed off Guildford, a wealthy town of 58,000 located 28 miles south of London. The two explosions were the latest in a series of more than 200 which have rocked England in the past 20 months. LIMA, PERU An earthquake struck Peru on Thursday, October 3rd, killing at least 20 persons, injuring hundreds, and causing extensive damage. The quake occurred during the Lima morning rush hour and resulted in widespread panic. The initial tremor lasted for approximately two minutes and was followed by a series of aftershocks. The city of Canete, which is about 120 miles south of Lima, suffered the severest damage with almost 60 percent of its buildings reported destroyed. pCSinic NowTnormally, I aint one to keep harpin saddle Nanke gripes, but when you got a burr under yourshow it is withme right ietty now. damn uncomfortable til you remove it. The government, Italys 36th since World War II, stepped Thursday, down on its own accord with parliamentary vote registered against it. Italy is suffering the worst inflation of any Western European country and has been riddled by political accusation emanating from opposing party leaders. Italian President Giovanni Lei one has requested that Rumor remain in office to look after current business and to give members of parliament time to digest the turn of events. Political observers feel another coalition government will be formed or that possibly the parliament will be dissolved and new elections held. This is another example of the consequences suffered by a government which is run by Rumor. SANTA DOMINGO. DOMINICAN REPUBLIC Radamas Mendez Vargas and his band of terrorists have reduced their demands for the release of American diplomat Barbara Hutchinson and six other hostages. The guerillas, holed up in the Venezuelan Consulate, have abandoned their demand of a $1 million ransom and have modified their insistence on the release of 37 political prisoners. They said theyd accept the release of fewer prisoners but did not specify a number. They are also asking for asylum in either Mexico or Peru. The Dominican government has already agreed to fly the band out of the country but has maintained it will not meet any other demands. Vargas shouted through a paper megaphone that conditions in the consulate have become unbearable. The sparsity of food and water, 100 degree temperatures, and toilets that will not flush are believed to be responsible for the diminished demands. Restrictive gun legislation will never work, but what we can do is ban the use of firearms during hunting season. While were at it, we might as well throw out all bows and arrows, too. Well make hunting truly a sport. As it is, its a little bit lopsided. The deer have four feet and their natural inrifle. So stincts. The hunter has two legs, the instincts, and a well even the odds a little. First, we gather up some deer and put them in a convenient location (preferably within a fence). Then we round up the hunters and station them somewhere in the general vicinity. But instead of giving the hunters guns, we give each one of them a three-foo- t piece of pine (or some other wood) to use as a club. Then we set loose the deer. The real hunters will have to be but with a couple of years practice, they ought to be able to run down a deer. Course keepin up with the deer and tryin to beat its brains out at the same time is goin to prove to be a problem for some, but during the time it takes the hunters to figure out how to do all this, the deer are gonna have it as easy as the hunters have had it for all these years. Well, I know that theres gonna be some people around who disagree with my ingenious plan. Thats okay. Im sure that theyll come up with their own proposal given enough time. high-power- ed WASHINGTON, D.C. At the request of President Ford, two major grain exporters have agreed to halt shipments of corn and wheat to the Soviet Union. The cancellation of the $500 million contracts was called for as an measure. It is feared that such exporting would increase already high American grocery bills, by placing additional pressure on the feed grain supply.
