CAPRICORN Youre 6 7 8 9 10 Joe Kollch with Mr. Jones I am taking the liberty of writing a preface to the article below on the poisoned dogs. That article is a factual representation as best can be reported. There could have been other ramifications of this incident which should be stated. First, whether accident or not, a deadly poison was somewhere highly accessible. If six dogs can find it, why cant a child? One of the many tests which a small child performs on new found things is that of taste. From earthworms to tinker-toy- s, children learn by taste. Luckily, there were no children in this area at the time but is this the only area? Is this the last area? Second, I spoke with Dr. Lee Erickson of Heber, Dr. Clark Vanderhoof of Salt Lake City, and Mr. Tom Little of the Humane' Societyr All confirmed the fact that a poisoned dog can be vicious. Each dog went to a separate place to die. One went a quarter mile. Lucky no one was in the way. Dogs have contacted poison in Park City before but not to this degree. The dogs were all in the same area but at different times. Does that mean a lot of poison or a very powerful little. We 'are sorry for such a death for any animal. We are equally sorry for the owners. Each had deep emotions for their pets (just as any pet owner) . So, keep an eye on your dog. If you have not already, speak to your children about strange dogs. If you have, tell them again! I know I will tell my children again. I All ANIMAIS the WHY? Editor six dogs died of poisoning in Park City. The dogs came in contact with the poison in the Silver King Lodge-Palac- e Flophouse area. All dogs died within a period beginning at 9 a.m. The dogs ages ranged from' four months to 14 months. The poison took around two hours to take effect. Following that time period, the dogs went into convulsions which lasted from five to thirty minutes before death. Each dog selected a different place to die. One ran back to the house it was born in. The residents phoned the police and Officer Pete Martinez answered the call and put the dog out of its misery. (The owner thanks Mr. Martinez for stopping the dogs On Saturday, April 27, 12-ho- ur pain.) Several owners were present as their dogs died. Stiffness of the hind quarters and swelling of the tongue were symptoms. Four of o the dogs lived in the area, two were visiting with their owners. The Humane Society of Utah has been conducting a full investigation into the poisonings. Results of their work will be published. The Humane Society has offered a $500 reward for in- formation the regarding poisonings (see ad). The names of the dogs and owners are listed below: 1. Joseph Kolich - Mr. Jones. 2. Rick Washburn - Sugie Otis. 3. Jean Kicciardi - Moze. 4. Ken Cricks - Spondike. 5. Alan Carter -- Toster. 6. Unidentified - Unidentified. The Humane Society has requested that if any other dogs have died of poison to please report details to the Coalition. The information will be passed on to the Society. This is not an easy article to report or write. We convey our regards to each owner for his or her loss.
