The inscription Department of the Army is used instead of War Office." The flags have been rearranged, and red arabic numerals 1775" have been substituted for the roman numerals. As a result, the public can more readily identify the new plaque with the .Army. The official DA seal is being retained without change. In keeping with its original purpose since its origin in the late 1770's, the seal will continue to be used in the authentication of documents and records. Callaway has announced the adoption of the first officially approved Department of the Army (DA) display plaque as a symbolic representation of the Army. Similar in design to the official DA seal, the new plaque in color will be used as a highly visible, readily identifiable symbol of the Army. The adoption of the new display plaque represents continuous efforts to graphically identify the modern professional Army and its bicentennnial birthday in 1975. Fourteen members Scout Troop 481 of Dugway accompanied by three adult leaders, returned recently after a successful three- - day, 25- - mile liackpacking trip over Big Mountain, east of Dugway. Leaders accompanying the troop were Wendell White, Dr. Volney Wallace and Neil Peterson. The troop is sponsored by the Dugway LDS Ward. Scouts earning their hiking merit badges on the outing were John McCallister, Jim Keetch, Gordon Bell, Ted Stangler, John Whiting Jeff Whiting, Paul Brown, Gregory Brown, Rex Griffiths, Ed Whiting, Keith Hayes, Jeff Keetch, Mark Antry and Jay Turner. The troop was dropped off by Thursday at evening Hatch's Ranch and then hiked three miles before setting up cainp for the first night. The next morning after breakfast the group hiked to Stooki Springs, where camp was set up for the second night. We could see Lookout Pass, Rush Valley, and the Great Salt Lake from the top of Big Mountain, White reported. On Saturday the troop hiked to Marshall Crossing, just below the head of Clover Creek. At this point, some 25 miles from their starting point, the boys were picked up by vehicle and returned to Dugway. The purpose of the trip was to earn hiking merit badges, White said. I believe the boys earned them because they hiked about 25 miles with back packs. They had a good time and there were no gripes or complaints during the outing. The only complaints came the next day after the boys returned home, when it turned out that several had minor blisters and backaches from backpacking so far. But these were soon healed.
