Show The Deseret Sampler, Fri., November 24, 1972 Basketball schedule Mustangs open tonight against North Sevier basketball season tonight when they host The Dugway Mustangs open their 1972-7- 3 the North Sevier Wolves. The game will be the first played in the new High School gymnasium. The Junior Varsity contest will start at 6:15 p.m. with the Varsity encounter scheduled for 8:00 p.m. 1 COACH WALDEN Gurney has lined up a 21 game schedule for the Mustangs with ten games at home. Included in the schedule are eight Region Nine contests. A feature of this years schedule is also the meeting of Dugway and Tooele High School in varsity competition as Tooele will be at Dugway Deceinlrer 15. Dugway also has home and home games with both Crantsville and Wendover. The Mustangs have five returning lettermen this year with guard Rex Palmer and forward Gary Harris having lettered for two years. Center Reggie Brewer, forward Randy Brown, and guard Scott Palmer are the other lettermen. UP FROM last year's Junior Varsity are forward Dee Shirts, center Bruce Hooley n and guard Kevin Donnelly. Rounding out the varsity are two sophomores, guard Mike and forward Gary Ott. Both Palmers, Harris, Hooley and Shirts are seniors while Brewer, Brown, and Donnelly are juniors. Coach Gurney said This year's team will find out in a hurry how good we will be as our first game with North Sevier Ls against one of the rated teams in the state then we play the next five games away before playing Tooele here." The Mustangs hope to return to the state playoffs this year after failing last year for the first time in three years. There are ten teams in the region this year with the region being divided into two divisions. A region playoff will follow the regular season to determine the entrants for the state tourney. Reserved season tickets are on sale by the Mustangs Booster Club. The tickets, good for all home games including Freshmen games are $12.50 and can be obtained from Mrs. Daroi Bailer or Mrs. Lowell Griffiths. The Mustang Junior Varsity under Coach Qeorge Bruce will lie out to try to duplicate their last seasons record of 17 wins against only three losses. At present Bruce is carrying fourteen hoys on the roster, juniors Ken Barton, Roland Pyne and John Hebert, and sophomores Mike Harris, Mike Eva, Ed Ortiz, Paul Ortiz, John Montano, Barry Gardenr, Mike Hodges, Bruce Hays, Russ Taylor, Doug Barnes and David Johnson.
