Show The DESERET SAMPLEP, Fri., Oct. 23, 1970 PTA News i An informative talk by the Tooele School Board was pre- Hi M sented at the first meeting of the Dugway PTA, at the Elementary School on the evening of 28 September. This meeting was attended by many parents and faculty members of both the Elementary and High School. Mr. Clarke Johnson, District Superintendent, was the speaker accompanied by Mr, Joe Stephens and Mr. Billy Bunnell, Dugway area's representative to the school board. Among subjects covered by the Board were the sources for funding of the schools in the area, including Federal Aid to impacted areas, the distribution of school funds within the district, and expenses allowed for extracurricular activities. Plans for modernization of the Dugway schools are still in process, Mr. Johnson slated. He also affirmed that the Tooele School District has been awarded $15,000 by the State of Utah to begin the development of a' model educational system in the district Revenue sheets were passed out, and the budget for the whole district reviewed by Mr. This comprehensive Johnson. presentation served to answer many questions in the minds of those in attendance. The sincerity and diligence of the Tooele School Board was evident to Dugway residents; although we are primarily interested in our local school problems, the presentation of the "whole picture" was advantageous to us, to keep our problems in the proper perspective, and to gain understanding and patience as these problems are leing worked out. Mrs. Helen Rees, Playground Committee chairman, gave a report on the status of the improvements to the playground in the Elementary School (90 per cent completed), and the facilities and benches being provided for the High School students. Is television educational? Now that the four networks have premired all their new shows and people have watched them all and given them a chance, it is time once again for the national critics to settle back into their own little world and the critics of television to again say that television is still a vast wasteland with no value. I say that is not true. Television can be a great learning and teaching medium as well as a great babysitter. There are many many things that can be learned through absorption of the programs on television. On Ml Merchandise - Sale Ends Nov. At Least 1 5 Some elec.
