NATIONAL Fire Prevention Week was established by Presidential Proclamation as Octolier It is during this traditional weeks observance that local fire departments receive recognition for their g efforts, constant vigilance, and continuous fire prevention campaigns. This years prevention program has thus far featured numerous types of planned visits, lectures, practice evacuations, and contests. This has been one of the most extensive fire preventive programs that weve ever experienced at Dugway, states Fire Chief Jifmes I. Alcorn. We hope though that the people will not forget what they have seen and heard during this weeks activities, and that they will rememlier this message long after the close of Fire Prevention Week. One of the larger portions of the weeks activities has been devoted to the children of Dugway. The children have been given personal tours of the fire station facilities, demonstrations on different types of fires and hazards and even received a close-u- p look at the traditional red fire truck. In other theater happenings in Salt Lake City, Theater 138 has opened its production of Hay Fever by Noel Goward. THIS THEATRICAL production is unique in that the day after the rights to production were obtained, Broadway Producer Leonard Stillman announced his intention of doing the same play. As a result, all rights were withdrawn except Theater 138s which was okayed before the announcement. This means that it will lie the only theater in the U.S. (excluding New York City) that will lie presenting- - Hay Fever. This is the second exclusive production in Salt Lake City within a year. Last seasons production of Man of La Mancha was the first authorized production other than Broadway and the National Touring Company. Through the many years of American theater, both legitimate (meaning Broadway stage) and movies, there have been a few actors or actresses that have been around for more than a few years. OXE WOMAN in particular should le familiar to almost everyone. She is Helen Hayes, the First Lady of the American Theater. Miss Hayes has been in the theater for sixty-fiv- e years. She first appeared on die Broadway scene in 1909 in one of the hit plays that year, Old Dutch, with Lew Fields. Also during that year the Barrymores were in their prime and another Zieg-fiel- d Folly captured all audiences that saw it with its pagehtry and beauty. It had a lieautiful array of female talent in Sophie Tucker, Nora Bayes, Lillian Lorraine and Mae Murry. This was the year that Helen Hayes made her Broadway delmt.
