Teal Today will mark 1970s first appearance of a young lady named Spring, a young Miss who visits each year and brings her welcoming freshness to a society that is always ready to free the Winter bonds of ice, snow, and intease cold. Each year as Spring pays her annual visit, she in turn produces a visable change in every individual she touches. As she breezes in, an instantaneous twinkle emerges in everyone's eyes and a sudden burst of energy explodes as it the individual had just received a massive dose of adrenaline, thus sparking the tired individual onto new heights of untiring energy. Spring, of course, means different things to different individuals. For Mothers, Spring is the season of many pleasant memories, as well as work. As April rolls around, her thoughts delve back 32 yean into the past as she recalls her dating' yean and the day when she and her young fiance were married in the gazebo in her mothers rose garden. g is another chore that comprises Spring much of Moms time. Where the idea originated, I dont know, but for as long as I can reinemlier, mothers always manage to go beserk around the house cleaning the blinds, windows, and drapes, scrubbing and waxing the floors, painting the window screens, cleaning closets and kitchen cabinets, dusting and waxing the furniture, repainting the bedrooms in the newest Spring shades, rearranging the furniture throughout the house, plus all the other little jolxs that go into maintaining a household. In addition. Mom Is alwavs the one who tries to stretch the budget a little further so that everyone in the family can have new shoes, dresses, suits or hats for Easter. And what about the Spring garden? This is one project that Mom usually spearheads but somehow manages to get the entire family involved in especially poor old Dad. After all, whats Spring without fresh vegetables and brightly colored flowers from your own garden? But Dad is not exempt from Springtime either. Despite the aches and paius of gardening, Dad's thoughts tum to his favorite sports. As the days get warmer and longer, all he can think alxnit is the pleasurable hours that he will soon lie spending on the golf course. And what about the summer trip that he has been dreaming alxnit since last January? Now is certainly the time to start planning the travel routes and to determine how many miles and sights he can cram into one vacation. And lie sides, wouldnt a new car or camper lie just the thing for the familys trip? Its strange how Spring always turns a mans fancy to new cars, or is that love? Oh EDITORIAL Human Coals: Respect house-cleanin- Our nation was founded on the principle that the individual has infinite dignity and worth. The Department of Defense, which 'exists to keep the nation secure and at peace, must always lie gniAvl hy this principle. In all that we do, we must show respect 'for the serviceman and civilian employe as a person, recogniz- ing his individual needs, aspirations, and capabilities. d force, The defense of the nation requires a military and civilian, regular and service. To provide such a force ' we must increase the attractiveness of a career in Defense so that the serviceman and the civilian employe will feel the highest pride in himself and his work, in the uniform and the military profession. The attainment of these goals requires that we strive: To make military and civilian service in- the Department of Defense a model of equal opportunity for all regardless of 'race or creed or national origin, and to hold those who do business with the Department to full compliance with the policy of equal employment opportunity. well-traine- -- v tax-lad- en too-sho- No sector in American life has achieved the measure of and treatment that has keen realized in the well equal opportunity , Armed Forces. , the familys own Teenage Queen is likewise enthralled and captivated with the thought of Spring. As site thinks ahead to April and May, all she can envision are the Senior Parties and Graduation Day, and after that, a quick summer before college or her first summer as an adult with a full time job and her own apartment. And of course, dont forget all of those wedding invitations that always seem to flood everyones household during Spring. Furthermore, why do all of the young ladies seem to set their sights on their unattached boyfriends during this particular time of the year? For Junior, the Spring season is not as complicated us it is for the other family memliers. His primary thoughts d case of Spring Fever and how deal with his to avoid Mom and her spring Being the athlete of the family, all Junior can think alxnit is the baseliall team, tennis, track, swimming, golfing, water skiing, and so forth. None of this girl Imsiness for him! Sis, The dedicated leadership of countless men and women in the' military services, and the Department of Defense, has made this progress possible. But, in striving to attain the Defense Departments Human Coals, we must remove every vestige of discrimination. The policy of equal opportunity must continue to lie translated into living and meaningful reality for every military man and woman and civilian worker. It is the responsibility of every member of the Defense Department to accept other members on the basis of their individual worth. Additionally, this policy of equality must be upheld by those in position to choose which agencies may do busi-- , ness with the Department of Defense. Each individual must assist in extending to all facets and activities of life the spirit of mutual trust and respect of an equal opportunity. (AFPS) ; Chaplains Corner Holy Saturday that can lie found The lesson of Good Friday is a most important one for anyone who would lie a Christopher. To bring Christ into the market place, to persevere, in the face of suffering and even death, in the task of keeping the things of the spirit over those of the flesh, you must lie ready to suffer constantly. Christ never promised that it would lie easy. Through all trials a true Christ-bearcan see the same is the victory of that victory Good Friday. In the midst of a materialism that liccomcs inmore sordid, in a creasingly world that is gripped hy greed, terror, and cruelty, the Christopher is buoyed up hy the triple strength of a faith, hope, and only charity in Christ Crucified. Each one who liears Christ can take deep satisfaction in knowing that suffering for Ilis cause is never in vain. After the struggle of life will one day come that precious eternal joy that will lie all the more appreciated it has purchased by a sorrow that is shortlived when viewed in terms of eternity. Amen, amen I say to you, that you shall lament and weep, Imt the world shall rejoice; and you shall lie made sorrowful, hut your sorrow shall lie turned into joy." John 16:20' CH (MAJ) Edward .
