Familiar figure on the Salt for many years was Tommy Thompson from Wheat-ridge. Tommy brought his Goldenrod Streamliner equipped with a 425cu. in. Olds, hopeful of capturing the BS record of 326,85 3mph, but had problems and was unable to run. The Peek Brothers of Denver who held the BFR record of 213.248 were back to defend their record, but Mark Dees had other ideas and claimed the record at 230.406, with the assistance of partner, Bob Joehnck. Ben Jordon of Denver entered a '67 Abarth in HGrand Touring, but unfortunately, his fastest speed was71.54mph. a super of 201.916mph. Marshall LeVack, a typical good guy from Lake Jackson borrowed tires, parts, and advice from some other good guys on the Salt. His appreciation was expressed in writing on the side of his Studebaker. LeVack qualified for the BGas Coupe & Sedan record at 183.39mph, but unfortunately did not get the record. He did take home a 2nd Place trophy, however. WASHINGTON ... The Hudson Boys from Seattle turned 126.850, fast enough to capture the XPR record and First Place, then returned to also gain the XXC record of 134.686. Robert Belanger handled the driving chores. a high OREGON . . . Steve-Kanschool shop teacher from Portland put a 308" Hudson in his '53 Stude for a little competition in the XGC class. Clarence Everett from Salem drove his Bantam Special XStreet Roadster to a two-wa- y average of 135.287 to take home that record. n, UTAH . . . Lindsay Strasburg all the way from Salt Lake City dropped by for a First Place tro phy in BAltered with a top speed ofl65.44mph. John Bearce Ford (one of the fine B.N.I Supporting Members) and crew from Washington, 111. competed with a '71 Mustang Fastback for the GPR record, held by Wilford Day at 134.386mph. ARIZONA . . . Chauvin Emmons from Scottsdale was back with his Modified Roadster (with a beautiful new paint job), but his 360.. Chrysler couldnt quite perform well enough to get the CMR record he was aiming for. . CLOSING OF THE GENERATION GAP BGAS COUPE & SEDAN . . . Set the scene as John Helash and his Over the Hill Gang with a 427" Ford challenged the Skidmore Brothers of Salt Lake City with a 427" Chevy. Final result they both turned exactly 170.45 miles per hour! ILLINOIS . .. WYOMING . . . was represented by Roger Schlump and David Mullen from Laramie providing competition in both BGC and BALT classes. MICHIGAN . . . When Roosevelt Lackney wasnt busy running a bike, he was behind the wheel of Mat Guzzettas Project 500 IStreamliner. This car won 1st place last year, but wasnt so fortunate this year.
