Will you model hair pieces at the fashion show tonight? The silence that followed was so long, the person on the other end of the line kept telling me all kinds of flattering thinga. I knew then that the club was in real trouble. They couldn't get modeling school models, they'd probably called everyone in the elub before they got to me. When you are five feet and inch, and a lot of other tilings I hope you havent noticed, you just dont ever expect to model. So what did I finally reply? Well, I'll do it but I'll probably look like Uarpo Marx. Maybe I was just a frustrated model all the time. Who knowa. Well, after a hectic day at the office, I grabbed a bite to eat, showered, sought out my tightest girdle and my upliflingest bra, got out a brand new pair of nylons, pulled out my best black to show off the hair piece, and got down there at 6:30 p.m. After all I had to have at least one easy lesson in modeling and practice holding my head with a wig on. Frankly I was curious about wigs. 1 have the kind of husband who says, Throw on some clothes. Were going out for dinner. Sometimes he gives me all of a half hour notice to go out of town for the week end. I got behind the scenes where the models were getting made up and into their first showing of clothes. Mostly I was just in the way. Suddenly it occurred to me that there were four or five people there Id never seen before. So I consulted, and sure enough, the models had arrived to wear the wigs after all. So after waiting until the hair pieces arrived, a few of us quietly drifted off into the audience. Shucks! There went the only chance I'll probably ever have to be a model! However, since I was still interested in those wigs, I always wanted to know how I'd look as a red head, and too chicken to try it out with a bottle, I tried one on after the ahow. Did I look like llarpo Marx? I did not. Did I look like Marie Antoinette? No, thank heavens, for she lost her head, wig and all, Did I look like Lucy Ball? Well, no.
