First I want to say that I, as principal of the Park Terrace Cards wars sold only by Elementary Sohool initiated the sale. Don Davis, principal of the Blanding Elementary School, his faculty and students have not participated in any way in the ale. I alone bear the responsibility. I will grant you the premise that we art selling in direct and as competition to the business establishments in Blending, oons more end a result of your editorial will weigh ths pros heavily another season. You state that this is a Hnew oard selling enterprise." The elementary sohool has sold Christ ims oards every year sines 1953 with the exosptlon of ons year, 1957. In fact several people have always come dlrcotly to the sohool near the end of Christmas oard mailing time to got thos However, Paid at Blending, Utah last minuts oards. Also in your first paragraph you stated that ths elementary students went out with "arms loaded with cheap Christmas cards begging parents and neighbor to buy them." I oertalnly object to the phraseology "arms loaded." The teaohers were instructed to send one box home with eaoh ohild to begin with, and then cards they eould get if they thought they oould sell additional we Also them from the teacher another time. certainly didn't mean to beg. Perhaps some of the students were earried away with making a sale and did beg. If you mean in quality, I oertalnly am not ashamed to send the oards to ny frlends and relatives and if you mean in price, I will agree. In faot they are a little cheaper than eomparable grade of cards. In Salt Lake City at the beginning of November the same patterns were selling in a variety store for 5 a card, loose on the oounter. It might be of Interest to patrons to know what the money for these oards will be used for. Up to and lnoludlng this year the district has never furnished money for the express purpose of renting films, or buying filmstrips, and visual material of this nature. If the sohool had these aids to use in the classroom, usually the sohool had to pay for them or the money had to oomt from the teacher's pooketbook. The distrlot, as 1 understand, is going to allow some money for this area of eduoa-tiq- n next year, at least to the point of getting a district-wid- e film striF library started. The money we make will be alloted to the teaohers on an equal basis to buy films end film strips for use in their 'classroom instruction. Although the money will not rent many films or buy many film strips, at least it will help in the instructional program.
