(Additional YR news on Pam 5). bauds. - The following are excerpts from the address to the annual Republican Nominating Convention by Meade Alcorn, Chairman of the Republican Party. AGRICULTURE: I believe tihait the tremendous bipartisan support of the new farm legislation (d.e. Ezra Taft Benson plan for flexibility .in the price support program) pretty well takes agriculture out of politics where it never belonged in the first place. In any case the farm problem as a poltiaal issue is already being by the Democrats. With net income of fanners during the first six months of this year running 22 per cent higher than the same period in 1957, it is becoming increasingly difficult for Democrats to charge that the nations farms and ranches are about to fall under the auctioneers hammer. MINING: Now, last year the Democrat controlled Congress refused to take any action bn administration proposals to aid the mining industry. This year, however, it does appear that the administrations mineral stabilization program will be approved . . . you should be proud it! rat Utahs delegation in the Congress played a major role in pushing this program toward soft-pedal- ed . enactment. CAMPAIGN ISSUES: . . . I dont believe we will be hearing much about economy from the Democrats this fall. Most voters understand that the best hope of achieving real economy Hes in electing Republicans and they dont feel that theyre about to call on the Paul Douglasses and the Wayne Morrises to bal- ance the budge. |
