The Republican National Committee met with President Eisenhower and Vice President Nixon. Representing Utah at the meeting were Thomas G. Judd, chairman Utah Republican State Central Committee, Jaren L. Jones, national committeeman and Mrs. LaRue B. Jex, national committee-woma- n. Mrs. Hazel Taggart Chase, Salt Lake County Recorder, has : been named recipient of the annual Mark Tuttle Award for 1957, at a dinner held for the Utah State Association for County Officials. The meeting was held at the Newhouse Hotel. - County Recorder Receives '57 Mark Tuttle Award Mrs. Hazel Taggart Chase, Salt Lake County Recorder, has been awarded the Mark Tuttle Award for 1957. She received the com- mendation Friday, Jan. 24, during the. banquet session of the Utah State Association of County Officials. The banquet was held at the Newhouse Hotel. The award is annually presented to the outstanding county the year. This is the first time it has been awarded to a Salt Lake County Official. Selection of the individual receiving the award is determined on five points. They are: leadership ability, the efficiency in conducting the office, values of services on a state-wid- e basis, service to the community and cooperation with other units of government. Past President UFWRC Mrs. Chase is the immediate past president of the Utah Federation of Womens Republican Clubs, and is now president of the offi-cial- of Ogden Armory Funds Near Approvement Womens State Legislative Council of Utah. She has served as President of the Altrusa Club and as Public Affairs Chairman of the ninth district of Altrusa comprising the western states. She has also acted as Recording Secretary and later Treasurer of the Salt Lake Council of Women, and as Captain of the McKinley Camp of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. Active in Ike' Campaign In addition to the honors above she was chosen as one of three women from 555 delegates to the San Francisco Republican National Convention to escort President Eisenhower to the rostrum to accept the Partys nomination for President of the United States. She was also a guest at one of the Presidents breakfasts. In addition she visited President Eisenhower at his Gettyburg Farm to attend the kick-of- f rally held there at the beginning of his campaign for President of the United States. Ward. . vice-preside- Says Rep. Dixon According to Republican Chairman Meade Alcorn, the GOP executive committee met the day before the national committeemen began their deliberations. The executive session included an off the record meeting with the President and the vice er president Principal purpose of the meeting was to obtain a frank appraisal of the status of the Republican Party and its organizations, Alcorn said. It was also the intention of the meetings to bring members up to date as a followup program' of j the six : regional conferences held last spring. Bennett Sponsors Bill To Extend Fluorspar Purchase by Gov't. Utahs Sen. Wallace F. Ben- nett a bill last Wednesday to extend the purchasing of fluorspar for the federal stockpile for another year.
