Bracken Lee for n. Wilkinson stated that while he appreciated the confidence of friends who have been urging him to become a candidate, he believed that the interests of all the people of the state can best be served by the reflection of Governor Lee. Among a number of reasons for supporting the governor, Wilkinson said, are his support ad during my years as state chairman and the fact that his administration during the past eight years have been outstanding. Wilkinson added that in the face of increasing costs all down the line Governor Lee has opposed new taxes, given honest, efficient and economical government and will end the biennium with an anticipated surplus of nearly six million dollars. And all of this has been accomplished without the slightest hint of scandal or wrongdoing a refreshing departure from previous administrations. Our school system is healthy and Utah is spending a greater percentage of its per capita income for education than any oth- er state. Our highways are on at least a par and in many cases superior to those of other western states. The state building program has accomplished Jmore during the past eight years than in the previous 25 years. I am confident Governor Lee will emerge from the primary election as the Republican nominee because it has been repeatedly demonstrated that the people at large respect his forthrightness and admire his record . on LaVerl Nielsen, a Salt Lake County Young Republican, has been named assistant editor of the State YR monthly newspaper, according to Claire L.
