Dawson Time for Rejoicing ' i During my years in Congress, I have never seen so much unrestrained rejoicing as I saw when the Upper Colorado River Storage Project passed the House last week. The surprisingly large vote, 256 to 136, climaxed years of hard work involving a number of people. Particular mention should be made of Sen. Arthur V. Watkins, who has worked tirelessly for this project ever since coming to Washington. Rep. William A. Dawson played an important role in winning the bitter fight in the House of Representatives, aided by the fine work of Rep. Henry . Aldous Dixon, Outside Congress there have been many who have spent long hours cause. fighting for this great tions. This bill also encourages small campaign contributions, permitting individuals an income tax reduction of up to $100 for political contributions in any one year. It also provides more realistic limits on the amount which may be spent for campaigns, and requires public reporting of all expenditures of more than $100. Admittedly this bill is not an answer to all the faults in our present campaign system, but it does move far in the right direction, and I think it has a good chance of passage in time to to the 1956 election. op-pl- y George Clyde of the Utah Water and Power Board, the Ilill Field Appropriation Aqualantes, and the people of the who I had the opportunity of preBasin States support Upper to entitled ed the fight are all senting testimony to the Armed this Services Committee this week on share in victory, in the Military Public Works bill. pointed up serious weaknesses those laws.
