The Republican senator found that the persona in authority In the Republican party In county and state were doing nothing overt In the face of an unusual situation. A Republican county treasurer had been suspended after an audit of his accounts while he was deputy. The three county commissioners were severally under charges made by women in civil actions for J10.000 damages each. Not to mention that a Republican city employe had been found to be short In his accounts after his body was discovered In the basement of his home with a rlflo bullet through the head. Yet the party leaders thought that these matters were now before the courts and that no further action should be taken until the courts had passed on the cases. This was not pleasing to Senator Smoot. He conversed with prominent Republicans, Including party officials. watchful waiting. The statement said that the Republican party has neither patience nor tolerance with such officers If the charges are true. It added that loyal Republicans are demanding that "culpable persons retire from public office. The senator's broadside appears to have.
