Show Students Study Survival Tips On Recent Trip to Towave Childs Frost and Graders. We left on our Survival Trip the morning of Oct. 3. On the way we talked on the When we arrived we unloaded the bus. sleeping bags, tents and things and ate By Robin lunch. After we ate, we pitched the tents. we got in our groups that were assigned earlier. The girls went with Mrs. Denver and Mrs. Frost; the boys Then went with Mr. Childs. First we made fish traps. The boys built their traps down stream a ways. STARTING SCRATCH-F- or FROM cookies second were pumpkin grade girls under the guidance of Miss Joanne Blazen left. Carving the pumpkin are Valerie Tom and Shauna Wopsock who shared the treat with the class. For entertainment the fifth grades presented a play titled Kathy Comfy Foffin Company Whiterocks Initiates Structured Tutoring By Amy Cesspooch The sixth grade students at Whiterocks are tutoring the third graders. This program is called structured tutoring, created by Dr. Grant Van Harrison from Brigham Young University. I think that helping other students is fun, sometimes. Other times, when they dont listen, I know how my teacher feels Im when not paying attention. Even when the going gets rough I dont think Ill quit, because I wished I had someone to help me when I was younger. The other day I wanted to quit, but my teacher said, "When you were little, I'm sure you needed And because I had been thinking help. about that all along, I decided to stick to it. Mr. Sixth After the fish traps were completed we went to build our animal traps. Next we built our Bird traps which werent as easy as we had expected. After the traps were finished we decided we had better build the wickiups and lean tos. The girls built wickiups and the boys built lean tos up against some caves. After we were finished with the traps and things we ate supper and fished. After fishing the boys played football and the girls played cards and other things. After the football we dug a devise to get water. When it was dark, we sang songs and told stories and had fun. After the songs and stories, everyone was tired so we went to bed. All the girls except four and Mrs. Frost slept in the bus. All the boys went to sleep in tents. In the morning when we woke up it was raining so we stayed in the tents and bus until about 6:30, then It stopped. We all After got dressed and ate breakfast. breakfast we went down to see if we had any water, fish or animals, we didnt so we came back to camp. When we got back we decided it was pretty messy so we cleaned up camp. Then we played for a while until about 1 1 when Mr. Childs decided it was time to go home. On the way back we sang and talked. At Ouray we stopped and ate lunch, then we loaded back up. We dropped off each student at his home. We all had fun. Ute History Class Dines at Bottle Hollow The accomplishments of the modern day Utes were viewed by fourth graders last week when they toured Bottle Hollow Resort and dined in the banquet hall. The annual outing is a treat combined with their Ute History course, accordingto Mrs. Norma Denver, Title I advisor. To avoid confiision, the 60 students agreed on hamburgers and coke for lunch. Chaperones on the outing Included Mrs. Denver, Mrs. Daisy Jenks, Ute Language teacher; Mr. Robert Reay and Mrs. Van Luben, fourth grade teacher. As a prelude to the tour, Mrs. Denver presented the Bottle Hollow film, courtesy of the Ute Tribe. Fourth graders from Whiterocks will receive the red carpet treatment at Bottle Hollow next Tuesday. parlimentary procedure for the newly organized Organization at Todd Elementary and West Junior high School are from left Mrs. Jess Rose Miller, president; Mrs. Charles Norma Jean Gray, Mrs. Winona Generoux, secretary. The women were elected to the posts at a general meeting of parents last month. Mary Tsosie, a Navajo student at Union High, will te in the chorus of the upcoming musical, "Oklahoma." Mark Dennis and Shauna Rasmussen are playing the leading roles in the production slated for Nov, 16 and 17 at the high school auditorium. Student director is Edna Lemon. A recent activity at Union which brougnt a few laughs and collected some funds for the Future Business Leaders of America Club was the "ugly man" contest. Alex Reyos dressed up as the FriendHe ship Clubs Ugly Man" contestant. won votes and received the most monetary the plaque for the Friendship Club. Larry Black, Club President, accepted the plaque presented by Kathleen Olsen. Other clubs entering the contest, which benefited the F.B.L. A., included Journalism, Concert Choir, Juniors, F.II.A., Vocational Center, Faculty, Drill Team, Seniors and Harlequin Players. Attentions : Seniors !
