Orrin Hatch last week as they presented their case in favor of labor law reform to a group of Democrats gathered for the monthly meeting of the Utah Forum. They entitled their discussion Orrins Oral Fixation, an obvious reference to Sen. Hatchs filibuster of the bill in the Senate. Ed Mayne and Tim Rice of the AFL-CIargued that opponents of the labor reform bill have painted a picture that is not true, saying instead the labor movement in the United States has created an efficient and productive workforce. Hatch has any faith in the ability of the workers to decide for themselves whether or not they want to join a union. The two union leaders also noted they fully support an amendment being proposed by Sen. Byrd which would exempt from the bill small businesses earning $500,000 or less.
