Show a9 the ENTERPRISE increase in the states labor costs has actually lost us some plant locations, but I have to be optimistic cant see about 1978. anything that will darken We the Utah economy. have a lot of things still going for us, and if we do 1 something we still have the productivity of our workers as a our about national energy situation, we could have a real boom in 1978. Retail sales look to be up six or seven percent over last year. I dont think theyll go wild, but well see steady growth, which is the kind of growth we can use. Personal income will continue to escalate. Our pay scale has moved closer to the national average, and this will definitely aid retail sales. Again, we wont see any wild growth, but more a continuation of the past few years. Its been interesting to watch consumers pay for durable goods with cash in the past few months. It shows they're being careful and buying only what they need. I think thats very Richard Wells President, Wells Distributing healthy, and it very well might carry on into 1978. We should continue to attract new industry. The major drawing card. But we wont see any wild expansion this year. This year, most of the states growth will be internally generated. Interest rates should inch up a little, but not a great deal. It will be interesting to see how Mr. Miller, the new chairman of the Federal Reserve Board, will handle things. Right now, hes a big question mark. Unemployment will stay right where it is, and it wont change much until we solve the problem of welfare. On the whole, we expect a steady expansion during 1978, giving the state good steady growth. In the long run, we see great potential in our energy reserves and our talented workers. Park City wants traffic The Park City Council and the Park City Planning Commission have asked the Utah Department of Transportation to do something about traffic on State Highway 224 through downtown Park City. David John Preece, planning director of Park City, said the Utah DOT is working on plans to carry the road along the hillside east of the center of town in an effort to put the park back in Park City. He said the old mining town was originally a pedestrian town and should return to re-routi- ng that mode of transportation along its Main Street if it is to restore its identity to the early 1900 look. Right now, DOT is working on traffic flow, trying to get cars off Park Avenue and Main Streets and return the center part of town to a human scale. Preece said any action to move the highway was at least three years away, and that first DOT plans will be unvei-e- d sometime next spring. DOT is looking at adding an eight foot bike and pedes- trian lane, separated from the Clark BuickDatsun 1 78 Regal Luxury 8 8 $159.18mo. 3 Lease this car for 36 mos. at 159.18. Preece said there is some resistance to relocating the road, since it would in part threaten several old miners homes that were built prior to Park Citys second fire in 1890. 77 a better year for ISE The Intermountain Stock Exchange ended 1977 on a note, closing at 62,984, up from Novembers 60.414.
