Show Page Eleven National Enterprise, March 24, 1976 About the Market The OTC market is finally showing signs of following the recovery performance of the Big Board. In fact, the cliche First to fall, last to rise," is, yet again, coming true. A bit of advice to our readers: Dont wait for full recovery of your investment portfolio before you buy. Some of those stocks we all agreed were underpriced arent underpriced anymore. And the remainder wont stay underpriced much longer. Kissinger Strikes Again Henry Kissinger wants the world to know that the U.S. wants no truck with illegal gover- nments. Dr Kissinger wasnt talking about the Amin regime in Uganda, Red China, Soviet Russia or any of his other detente partners. He was talking about the elected government oi Rhodesia. His reason for branding it illegal is that Rhodesia declared its independence from Britain without obtaining Britain's con- sent. Henry, about this Bicentennial were brating .... cele- "Is the market up, dear ? All our friends are speaking to me again. Since she was found than guilty, could we argue that the law is more impartial anyone thought? Hell no! When you get an idea in mind, dont let any facts stand in your way. You might also have noticed in the news that the United States imported more oil last month than we produced are domestically. Could that be evidence that we really fact becoming dependent on outside sources? I mean could the that this has never happened before in the 200 year history of our nation be significant? Probably not. Most people will continue to know that the whole thing is made up. If there is a shortage, why dont we have gas lines today? Well, you say, no one is saying that there is a gas shortage today. What they are saying is that we are dependent on outside sources to a large extent and its getting worse every day. the Look, the.average guy says. You know as well as I that large oil companies control those Arabs. Then you try to explain to him that ARAMCO is being taken over by the Arabs... etc. with Anyway, his mind is made up. Dont confuse the issue facts. The far right has believed for years that Rockefeller really runs this country. They arent bothered by his rather obvious lack of influence. The fact that he has tried tb be president for are years doesnt mean a thing. Their minds (such as they are) made up. Again, bear no relationshio to conclusions. of the movie, The other night on television they had a n The Candidate. Robert Redford plays the part of Bill McKay. He is one of those young liberal types who keeps saying, there must be a better way. His opponent is over 50 so naturally he doesnt care about the air, the forests, the people, etc. I assume that he might have children and even grandchildren. However, since he is over 50 he simply doesnt have time to think of their future. . . So Bill McKay keeps saying m the movie that there is a better way. The implication, of course, is that he, too, has a re-ru- plan. We aren't told what it is. From what I gather, however, it goes something like this: We cut out all jobs that cause any pollution. If nothing else Bill McKay is a sensitive man and he doesnt want Americans taking in any bad air. The whole thing just sounds great. But Bill keeps saying another thing that sounds good. He says that the richest country in the world can provide jobs for all its people. Again, the people love it. Of course, its a fact that if we cut out all the polluting jobs that we will have the worlds longest bread line in this country. Who cares, it all sounds good. Perhaps we could talk people into buying cars for the good of the economy but not driving them for the good of the environment. It would be a better world without facts. For example, the next time you are told that the Constitution guarantees every American the right to own a hand gun, think how nice it would be not to know that its a fact that the Constitution says no such thing. The fact that the Russians are pulling ahead of us in a number of areas shouldnt stand in the way of your believing that the military budget ought to be cut and cut and cut. The fact that people will only take a risk when they can make money shouldnt slow down the efforts of Senator Jackson to take the profits out of the oil business. The fact that large corporations pay a ton of taxes shouldn't affect anyones belief that corporations dont pay taxes. Nor should the events in Egypt in any way change our opinion that the Russians always win. The fact that the Russians and Chinese have thousands of troops facing each other this very day will certainly have no influence on our belief that the Commies are all united. The fact that marijuana is not addictive certainly shouldnt change the average persons opinion that it is. As a group we are not critical thinkers. Perhaps we ought to review our firm beliefs from time to time. Lets ask ourselves if we really know of any hard facts to back them up. It might be a better world if we looked more critically at our facts and our opinions.
