Its the clever ones who get paid for it. Just ask popular ice pantominist Hans Leiter, one of the star performers of Ice Small, medium or large! Bicycling on ice is no mirage as The Remarkable Romano Family spectacularly perform together. The entertaining world of the Romano family has gone around and round spanning five continents and continuing - for more than a decade. Their incredible bicycling skills are now featured in World Of Ice Wheels during the all-ne- w Capades. Peddling through a success- ful, internationally-acclaime- d bicycle career are Tony and Helene Romano and their old son, Patrick - all non skaters. Their unusual and difficult routine is one of the greatest bicycle acts in the world and the only one on ice. The mastermind behind the unique act is inventive Tony Romano, who began creating bicycle tricks over 30 years ago in Marseilles, France where his father owned a bicycle shop. Then many of his friends and relatives joined in the fun. He put together a show, toured Europe, and even performed before Queen Elizabeth and the Shah of Iran. 10-ye- ar - Strength, balance and coordination are the ingredients to the Romano familys success. They perform stunts and acrobatics on various types and sizes of bicycles. Home life for the Romanos is no different than any other familys - or so they will tell you. Accustomed to constant travel and hectic schedules, they are settled down comfortably in their large customized mobile home, which is equipped with stereo, TV and a fold-opatio. Traveling from city to city, they enjoy home-cooke- d meals, play with their pedigreed poodles and make sure Patrick does his homework. I was always doing crazy things on the ice when I was young, recalls the Austrian-bor- n Leiter, whose athletic background reveals skill in acrobatics and a Vienna Junior High and broad jump title. At first it was all in fun as I was completing my studies as a dental technician, but I soon realized that I enjoyed extracting laughs from people more thanextract-in- g teeth, he adds with a mischievous grin. Leiter has since parlayed his many talents into a successful and profitable career. With the seriousness of a dedicated A friendly, nappy and warm young lady, Dianna Morrison, stopped in to see us the other day to chat about the exciting and beautiful Ice Capades, scheduled for November 15 - 19th at the Salt Palace. Dianna is the charming Advance Publicist for the show and although quite new at the job, having started in July, lias been with the production off and on for nearly three years as a free lance photographer. Born in Illinois, she traveled with her mother and father, who was an engineer, finally completing her education at the University of Colorado in journalism, majoring in advertising. When not on tour with the show she lives in downtown Burbank, California. During the next nine months or so she says she will be tramping through the snows of Canada from Victoria, B. C. across the Trans Canada Highway to the East coast, instead of having to light the freeway jams of L. A. This is her first visit to Salt Lake and she is looking forward to touring the scenic sights and capturing many on film for her own enjoyment. She has been making the rounds to various news media, arranging interviews for the stars and letting everyone know about the dazzling production of entertainment awaiting those who attend the new spectacular Ice Capades. At 27 Dianna has been on her own for many years and prefers the single life. This seems to go more with the experience of traveling and publicizing the show during nine months of the year. Of course she enjoys picture-takin- g as a hobby and likes to slip during her stay in each city when she finds a skating rink and enjoy gliding over the ice just tor thrill of it. She has found Salt Lake to her liking and plans to make ay the most of her visit to our beautiful valley. - Meet Mr. Alarm Clock, Ludicrous Lion, Jiidy Frog, and Little Jimmy.
