I ought to know. LeGrand Jarman was my first Farm Bureau boss. 1 had been raised in Farm Bu- -' reau. As a toddler I went with my mother while she kept the minutes of the county Farm Bureau meetings. And we had Farm Bureau for breakfast, lunch and dinner. But it was LeGrand Jarman who helped me make the transition to an employee of this great organization. Twelve years ago when I hung up the Army green and went to Senate bill. John C. Datt, director of Congressional relations in the AFBF Washington, D.C., office, credited great work done by county and state Farm Bureau leaders with the victory in the House. He urged Farm Bureau members to continue their efforts to carry out national land use policy by writing to their Senators in opposition to federal land use planning legislation. work for UFBF, he handed me a map of my territory in Northern Utah, and then gave me a job description by telling me to go find out what farmers needed done and then help them do it. And when I needed him, LeGrand was there. But he gave me just .enough information to get me going in the right direction again. He usually left out just enough oft the answer so as to make me figure out how to do the job myself. When I returned to Utah in 1973 after 8 years with the Iowa Farm Bureau, Legrand pledged his full loyalty to me and again went the extra mile to help me get settled in the new job. So all of us really miss his more than 30 years of experience and wisdom. But were already finding hes just a telephone away. And after all, he deserves retirement. Fact is, LeGrands orchards, land development project and fishing pole (in reverse order) will keep him as busy as ever. By the way, well be honoring him at the Hobble Creek Canyon barbecue supper at the Mid-YeConference. See you there. helps prevent over-milkin- g, saves man-hours- ...
