' We should work to stop the hysterical belief that Farmers are causing the imbalance with nature before we reach the condition described in the poem written by John Carew. In Balance With Nature In the beginning there was Earth; Beautiful and wild; and then came man to dwell. At first, he lived like other animals feeding himself on creatures and other plants around him. AND THIS WAS CALLED IN BALANCE WITH NATURE. Soon man multiplied. He grew tired of ceasless hunting for food; He built homes and villages, wild plants and domesticated. animals were become In- Artists, or Doctors, and this was called society. Man and Society progressed. With his God given ingenuity, man learned to feed, doth, protect, and transport himself more efficiently so he might enjoy life. He built cars, houses on top of each other, and nylon and life was more enjoyable. The men called Farmers became effident. single Farmer grew food for 45 industrialists, Artists, and Doctors And writers, Engineers, and Teachers as well. To Protect his crops and animals, the Farmer used substances to A repd Or destroy Insects, Disease, and Weeds. These were called Pesticides. Similar substances were used by Doctors to protect humans. These were called medicine. The age of science had arrived and with it came better diet and longer and happier lives for more members of society. Soon it came to pass that certain members of Society. Disapproved of Farmer using . Science. Utah County Women Meet Utah Farm Bureau Womens Committee met April 21, 1972 at the Sage Inn in Springville. Cumorah Holdaway conducted the business meeting. In addition were 18 local Womens Chairmen and State Chairman, Barbara Whitbeck, and LeGrand Jarman representing the staff. Plans were made to conduct a telephone campaign to encourage participation in the Farm Bureau Service programs, such as tire purchases to members through IFA, Slow Moving Vehicle Emblems, for safe movement of slow moving vehicles on the highways and defensive driving courses. The ladies were encouraged to attend their Mass Meeting, May 15, and take part in the party of their choice to insure good candidates for public office. The ladies were encouraged to paint up, clean up, and engage in a beautification program for their homes and their communities, including the mail boxes with names clearly painted to identify them. ladies day acThe tivities, June 15, were announced. up-comi- ng Reports would indicate this was one of the best such meetings held to encourage active participation in Farm Bureau programs. They deplored his upsetting the Balance of Nature. They longed for the good old days. And this had emotional appeal to the rest of Society. By this time Farmers had become so efficient, Society gave them a new title Unimportant Minority. Because Society could not ever imagine a shortage of food. Laws were passed abolishing Pesticides, Fertilizers, and Food Preservatives. Insects, Disease, and weeds flourished. Crops and animals died. Food became scarce. To survive, Industrialists, Artists, and Doctors were forced to grow their own food. They were not very efficient. People and governments fought wars to gain more agricultural land.
