In our group there were 29 people, 13 L.D.S., 16 Baptist. Duane Crowther was the leader from Salt Lake along with Rev. Kenneth Dunkeberger from California. Byblos, in Lebanon is possibly the oldest continuously inhabited town in the world. The Bible got its name from Byblos. It is of Greek origin, which means the place of the book, because the first books were made there from papyrus brought from Egypt. The tirst alphabet was created here with 22 letters, each letter having a separate sound. The oldest and longest in its span of history is the Bible. I love to think of it as our longest genealogical record of our ancient ancestors. I particularly enjoyed a visit to Mars hill in Athens, Greece, because here one of the spiritual meetings was held by our group. It was here where Paul preached to the learned Athens in the following way: Ye men of Athens, I perceive that in all things ye are to supurstitious. For as I passed by, and beheld your devotions, I found an altar with this inscription, TO THE UNKNOWN GOD. Whom therefore ye ignorantly worship, him declare I unto you, God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temple made with hands. (Acts 17:22-24- ) In a spiritual sense Jerusalem is the Center of the World, for it is the cradle of the three great monotheistic religions, holy to the Jews since David made it Ms royal capital three thousand years ago, to the Moslems as a shrine sanctified by Mohammed and to the Christians as the place of crucifixion of Christ. It has been called the dty of Peace, but in its course of long and stormy history it has been repeatedly destroyed and rebuilt. Solomon the son of David, built the first temple of which the lower tiers of the Western wall, is known as the wailing wall. Throughout the ages Jews have come there to express sorrow for the lost glories of the past. It is the only remaining relic of that temple. Most all the sacred places have a church or a Mosque built over it. Today on what is traditionally the site of the temple stands the Dome of the Row, or Mosque. This was built in the eighth century. It unites the three religions. Beneath its shelter is the rock upon which Abraham offered Isaac to the Lord. This Mosque has been erected .on the site of Solomons temple. In this . same area Pontius Pilate condemned Jesus to be crucified. Bethlehem, a little town in Judea is the birth place of Jesus. Under the church of Nativity, going down into a lower room is a cave and in there is designated the place of His birth. Nazareth was the place where Jesus grew up with his foster father Joseph and mother Mary. Here He was known as the carpenters son. As we roilnded the Mgh moun- tain, before beginning the drop into the valley wecould see the rich green foliage, almost tropical in its growth and there was the sea of Galilee. What a beautiful sight. Nestled in mountains, about 680 feet below sea levd, the temperature was very comfortable that day, with a little breeze as the small waves approached the shore. This was a place where Jesus loved to be and meet Ms friends. It was here at Galilee where a miracle of religious education transformed fishermen into fishers of men. And when he was entered into a sMp, his disciples followed him. And behold, there arose a great tempest in the sea, insomuch that the ship was covered with waves; but he was asleep. And his disciples came to Mm, and awoke Mm, saying, Lord save us; we perish. And he said unto them. Why are ye fearful, 0 ye of little faith? then he arose and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm. But the men marvelled, saying. What manner of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him. (Math. Ch. tree produce fruit. There is an estimated 8 million olive trees in the area. The Dead Sea has 2 percent more salt than Great Salt Lake. As we were visiting some ruins, we noticed a group of clean cut girls and boys gathered in a circle resting, to our surprise they were 40 students from B.Y.U who were there studying for a 3 months period. We were acquainted with their instructor, a professor, from BYU., LaMar Berrett formerly of Riverton, and Eldred and Violet We had a Hamilton, good visit with them and spent an en joyable home evening with them that night. It was with grateful hearts at our journeys end that we realized how far we had traveled without any serious illness or injury to anyone. The weather conditions had been ideal, traveling had been easy and comfortable. It was then that we found ourselves longing for the wonderful country place we call home and our families. Thankful for the many Messings we have. Now we have these priceless memories. son-in-la- w. The new program is being coordinated with the National and will place special emphasis on the Occupational Safety and Health Act provisions, Mr. Campbell said. In previous years, USDA has promoted National Farm Safety Week during July, as well as Fire Prevention Week in October. Hard Hats now recommended by the National Safety Council for use on the farm. Farm Safety is not just for Farmers. Safety is not just for Farmers. False Advertising? real estate advertising is hardly new. When Eric the Red discovered Greenland in 982, he gave the Artie island its misleading name in a successful bid to attract Viking colonists. Glorified Spring Work Is Beginning 8:23-2- 7 Another very special place, was the garden of Gethsemane. It was alive with the beautiful ancient olive trees and flowers. The garden is small and well kept, enclosed by a rock wall. There is a feeling of peace that prevails. It was a favorite spot of Jesus, many of his prayerful, meditative moments were spent there. He prayed there: Oh my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt (Mathew 26:39) Through suffering pain and prayer, Jesus gained renewed courage and spiritual aid from God. Jesus performed the act which provided redemption for mankind. Though he had power over death, he allowed his life blood to be shed in Gethsemane and on Calvary. It was a thrilling experience on Mount of Olives and to recall the prayer given by Orson Hyde, in the year 1841. The Prophet Joseph Smith sent Mm there to dedicate the land for the gathering together of Judahs scattered remnants, according to the predicitons of the holy prophets.'
