The famous old Vulture Mine, one of Arizonas earliest bonanzas, is going to become a tourist attraction. Complete with a motel and all that The. Vulture, discovered by Wickenburg way back in the Civil War days, produced something in excess of sixty, million dollars in gold bullion prior to the time it was shut down in 1942 by the infamous Federal edict that closed the countrys gold mines during World War II. Purchaser of the two hundred 'and. fifty-odacre property is Robert Morgan of Glen Cove, Long Island, New York. Included in the transaction were the buildings that remain standing at the famed old camp, including Wickenburgs old home, the general store, the assay office, mess hall and the bullion room. The Vulture is, according to legend, possibly the source of the rich gold ore that Jacob Walz, "The Dutchman used to sell and that brought about the yam of the famed Lost Dutchman Mine. Walz supposedly once worked at The Vulture and is believed by many to have d a s tope and later claimed to have a secret mine of his own in the Superstition mountains as an excuse for his source of ore.
