Show 2 THE CITIZEN THURSDAY, DEC. 1, 1S77 NEWTON NEWS 07ie Soetabk Citizen Edith Walk, daughter of Blanch and Fred Walk, Smithfield, was selected to be in Who's Who Among American High School Students for Edith is a Senior at Sky View High School. Band, hospital aid, office aid, library aid, active in church work, secretary of Laurel class and a University professional, in Pep Band, Marching band and the concert band. Mrs. Sammie Roark flew from Joplin, Missouri to care for her grandchildren, Elizabeth, park and Stephen Hammond while their mother, her daughter, Nancy welcomed Robert Roark Hammond at the Logan Hospital. Sammie as well as Nancy teach ballet. Grandmother 1976-197- 7. then drove back to Provo and Sammie expects to be here about 10 days. Mrs. Faye Lofthouse drove up from Willard to greet a new grandson and care for Heidi, Garth and Tanya Lofthouse while their mother Veldi welcomed a new boy at the Logan Hospital. Faye is the mother of the childrens father, Ronald. visited grandchildren, Garth Allsop, Sharon Allsop, and Ruth and husband David Keller, where they stayed over night. The grandchildren were attending BYU. Lew and Velva Allsop flew to Santa Rosa, Calif., to visit a son Marvin Sid Allsop and wife Louise and family, spending time on the beach, going sightseeing and enjoying Thanksgiving with them. Lila and Fred Abel drove to Hyrum to Fred's sisters, Erma and Lionel Furness Euphema Gittins spent Thanksgiving and the weekend with her daughter Connie Woodyatt in Willard. They visited relatives and friends and did some shopping in Ogden. Velva and Lew Allsop, Smithfield and son Judd and wife, Kathryn, Allsop and son Lew from Zellah, Washington drove to Denver, Colorado, to visit the son's daugh- ter Myra Creveston. They and spent Thanksgiving Day. The Furness family was all home. A total of 23 were present The Abies family Dixie, Rodney, Todd, Trudy and Eric were also present Mrs. Beth Lamb spent a week including Thanksgiving with her daughter Faye and husband, Frank Johnson and family in Salt Lake City. Present was Scott Johnson from Twin Falls, Idaho where he teaches school, Craig and wife; Doug and baby Brandon and Rick and Laurie Johnson. Attending the North Cache Chapter DUP from Smith-fiel- d Hamilton. Mrs. Haderlie was her mother. Part of the ilamilton family was present, Marilyn and Elvin Nielsen and children, Scott, Stacy and Kristin. Logan; Spencer and Gerry Hamilton and 7 children of Bountiful. They are Mike, Danny David, Mary, Ellen and Aly-so- n and Alice's and Melsuns son Brent Hamilton of Salt Lake City. Bob and Thaya Davis and were Norma Noble, Velva Allsop and Ruth Gregory. Relatives numbering family Lesley, Cathryn, Chris, Matthew and Robby drove to St. George to visit Thaya's parents, June and Fay Eggleston who had just recently moved there from Hawthorne, Calif. Also present were Tliaya's sister and 55, from Utah, California, Wyo., and Idaho gathered at the First Ward recreation hall for Thanksgiving dinner a tradition since the death of Elmina Haderlie. Attending from Smithfield were Alice and husband, Aleen and Dick Cooper and family of 9 children, her dad's brother. Jay and Merle Eggleston, and Shelia and Rodney, Pocatello, Idaho and her father's sister Beulah Allred, Melvin Logan. They visited relatives on the way down and others on the way back, staying with Bonnie and Bud Hardy and 6 children in Payson and in Moroni with Mary Kay and Mark Christensen and On Sunday, Nov. 27, she spoke in the Smithfield 4th Ward. She had stopped at New Zealand to see the temple and tour the Island. She also stopped in Hawaii and toured the Polynesian Center. She came to Salt Lake with 3 other lady missionaries. She plans on attending Weber College. June Boyde spent Thanksgiving at the home of Elaine and Clay Nielson. She spent the evening with Card Tribble and children. Fred and Blanch Walk and daughter Edith enjoyed Thanksgiving dinner at home. They then drove to Salt Lake City to Fred's sister's, Mary ana Val Berkley. They also visited Blanch's mother, Susan Walsh who lives with her son Bob and wife, Nel Walsh. The Walks got to visit grandparents Clara and Fred Walk Sr., who live at their daughters Marion and Vail Berkley in Ogden. The Walks are both 85. New families welcomed By LEDA SUTHERLAND We welcome Steven and Sandra Quinlog and their two children Steven Junior and Jessie Aaron to Newton. They moved here from Miar-mesCalif. They were very much impressed with Cache Valley and Newton which was recommended by John and Sandra Easely earlier in the year by a trip they enjoyed to Utah. So the Quinlog's decided to live in Newton. Steven was employed as a welder in San Diego and now is employed with Valle Metals in Smithfield and at Metro Steel American commodities in Salt Lake City. His parents are from San Diego and her parents now in Trumbol, Conn., originally from Knoxville, Tenn. They have lived in 21 states due to her fathers employment with the telephone co. We also welcome Nancy and Richard Logsdon and their children Richard Jr., 16 a, and daughter, Erin, months to Newton. They moved to Cache Valley from Sandy, Utah, about a year ago and to Newton recently. Prior to Utah, they lived in Florida. Richard is a glass blower for the Chemistry Department at USU in Logan.' They are living in the home formerly owned by the Henry Hansen family. On Sunday, Eunice Cooley, Hazel Rigby, Richard, Helen, Pamela, Justin and Jeremy Cooley, Newton, and Kemal and Edna Toolson, Smithfield, attended Fast and Testimony meeting at Arimo, Idaho, for the blessing of Enice's grandson, Bryce Douglas, by his father Ron Hellstern. A family n dinner was held at the home following the meeting where all those who had attended meeting enjoyed this special occasion along with Helen and Ron and their five sons. Hell-ster- 10 6 children. Sister Janet Hebdon has arrived home from her mission to the Australian-Mel-bour- n mission on Nov. 21. She was met at the Salt Lake Airport by his parents, Margaret and Rex Hebdon, Smithfield, a sister, Chistina and Berry White; a sister, Ruth Raleigh, Sait Lake; a niece, Margaret Lee and Daniel White. Carol was one of 71 dele- gates from 21 states attending the session at the Nation- Center. Featured during the week were sharing sessions on current Citizenship programs plus Indepth discussions of a variety of community service approaches such as community safety, al 4-- H 4-- H cross cultured awareness youth forums, working with the elderly and interpersonal relations and communications skills. Special feature of the week was a day spent on understanding our government in action during workshops at four federal agencies: The Carol plans to use newly acquired skills in working with her own horse club in Smithfield and also serve on the Cache County Council. leaders forums Department of Health, Education and Welfare, Interior, Housing and Urban Development and Energy. ' Other highlights included a 4-- H 4-- H tour of Washington, D.C., ML Vernon and Arlington Cemetery.
