Cove, are pleased to announce the forthcoming marriage of their daughter Diane to Hugh live in Smithfield and Logan gathered at Willow Park for dinner and a program Mon- Wilson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Vern Wilson, Midway. The marriage will take place Friday in the Ogden LDS Temple. A reception will be held that evening from 8 until 10 at the Cove Ward chapel. All friends and relatives are invited to attend. Diane is a 1972 graduate of Sky View High School and three year seminary. She is a 1970 graduate of Utah State University where she was active in the USU Sponsor Corps and the Student Activity Board. She is presently teaching at Wasatch Junior High School. Hugh is a 1972 graduate of Wasatch High School and four year Seminary. Our cook this week, Geri Ball, has mastered the art of sourdough. She is sharing with us the sourdough batter start plus three yummy recipes. Smithfield. on Friday in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. . Following the ceremony the newlyweds will he honored at a wedding breakfast given by the parents of the groom. The couple will greet guests at a garden reception at the home of the bride's parents in Draper. The following evening an open house will be held at the Smithfield Stake Center. Tamara is a 1974 graduate of Jordan High School and Sandy LDS Seminary and recently graduated from the USU LDS Institute. She is now attending Utah State University majoring in Early Childhood Education and Elementary Education. James is a 1974 graduate of Sky View High School and Smithfield LDS Seminary. He has recently returned from an LDS mission to Manchester England and is presently employed at Watkins Printing husband, Rulon, and their six children, Leroy, Resia Morey, Lauren. Dixie, Rulon Jr., and Leilani. The Balls have been residents of Trenton only four years having lived in Kearns for the eight years prior where Rulon operated his own jeweler business. Geri has worked right by his side in the business. In the last year they opened "The Watch Doctor" business in Trenton which their son, Leroy, manages now. Rulon now is traveling about selling janitorial supplies. Baking and watches are not Geri's only interests. She enjoys crafts of all kinds. Somehow she finds time to make beautiful macrame, massive, complicated ones as well as small dainty ones can be seen in her home. She also owns her own spinning wheel that she uses to spin her own thread. The lovely tapastrys hanging in her living room proves she knows how to weave the thread that she spins. BASIC SOURDOUGH BATTER 1 pkg. active dry yeast cup warm water 2 cups flour 2 cups warm water In glass or crockery bowl dissolve yeast in 4 cup water. Add flour and remaining water, mix well, and allow to stand, loosely covered, in warm place for 3 to 5 days. Each time Basic Batter is used reserve 1 cup to use as a "starter for another batch. This may be kept covered in refrigerator indefinitely. To make it into Basic Batter again, add 2 cups flour and 2 cups warm water and allow to stand at room temperature overnight. It is then ready to use, but 1 cup should be taken out to keep as another "starter." SOURDOUGH BREAD recipe Basic Sourdough Batter to 1 cup sugar (depending on how sweet a dough you want) 2 Tbsp. salt 6 Tbsp. melted shortening 12 cups flour (approximately) Combine ingredients in order given, using only enough flour to make dough so it can be handled. t Turn out onto lightly floured board and knead until smooth jand elastic. Place in greased bowl and allow to rise. (This takes longer than regular yeast bread). Knead down and allow to rise again. Divide dough into four parts and shape each into 'loaf ; place into greased loaf pan. Allow to rise. Bake at 37S degrees for 45 minutes or until done. Makes four loaves. 1 4 SOURDOUGH DROP COOKIES cup sourdough starter cup evaporated milk 2 cups flour 1 cup butter or margarine cups dark brown sugar, firmly packed 1 egg. beaten 4 tsp. salt 4 tsp. baking soda 3 cups crushed cornflakes n4 cup chopped walnuts 4 cup shredded coconut Stir sourdough starter, milk and 14 cups flour together in large bowl. Set aside for 2 hours. In separate bowl, cream butter and sugar. Blend egg and mixture of 4 cup flour, salt and soda. Stir in cornflakes, walnuts, and coconut. Blend both mixtures together. Drop by teaspoonfuls onto greased cookie sheet about 2 inches apart. Bake at 375 degrees for 15 minutes. Makes 5 dozen cookies. 4 1 1 1 1 a4 3 4 1 1 2 4 1 5 24 pgg. beaten to 6 cups Mix hot water, shortening, sugar and salt. Stir until shortening is melted; cool to lukewarm. In large bowl sprinkle yeast into 1 cup warm water. Stir until dissolved. . Add lukewarm sugar mixture, sourdough starter and egg. Mix well. Stir in enough remaining flour to make soft dough. Turn onto floured surface and knead about 10 minutes or until smooth and elastic. Add more flour if necessary. Cover; sit in warm place free from drafts and let rise 1 to 2 hours or until doubled. Punch down and turn onto floured surface. Cut dough into twenty-fou- r balls. Wrap each wiener with each ball of dough. Let rise again until doubled on greased cookie sheet. Bake at 400 degrees for 20 to 25 minutes nr until golden brown. Remove and brush with melted butter. Makes 24 servings.
