Strains of Shell Be Coming Around the Mountain rang (Ait over the High Creek campground in northern Cache Valley' as 53 enthusiastic volunteers and handicapped campers gathered in a circle around the campfire during a recent weekend campout. Behind the song leader hung the Bridgerland Special Olympics banner and a list of rules the campers themselves had prescribed. Rules included everything from always traveling with a buddy to having a good time. "We had no discipline problems during our trip because we 'allowed the campers to make their own rules. We discussed each one and the consequences of breaking them. The kids understood why they were made," explained Eileen Peatross, Special Olympics tents and some camping equipment. Everyone was great," Miss Peatross said. What did the campers enjoy most? The hiking, cooking and singing were all named, but no one could agree. The only thing everyone agreed upon was that the weekend was great fim. camping skills, nature crafts, hiking and generally having a good time keep campers busy. "Campers were divided into patrols. Each patrol had its duties on cleanup, ing and so forth. We wanted the campers to fed they were really doing something-makin- g a contribution, Miss Peatross continued. I A the frip and the Army reserve group lent us food for chairperson. The weekend camp trip was organized by the Volunteers Office of the Associated Students at USU. Learning LEAVES, TWIGS and other natural artifacts were gathered while hiking and pasted down by campers.
