After being beaten by Logan in the second round of the Tournament the Sox pw)f back thru the losers bracket to beat Logan twice. A night earlier Logan had been defeated 6 to 5. Dave Hoch and Same Borgogna each had 2 hits and Roger Howell a double in the title game. no-hitt- er SMITIIFIELD 9 WILLARD 2 The Blue Sox pounded out 14 hits for this win. Brent Toolson led the way with 3 hits. David Hansen, Dave Hoch and Randy Hunt all had 2 hits. Pat Jensen was the winning pitcher. SMITIIFIELD 11 ROY 19 In one of their biggest wins of the season the Blue Sox scored 4 runs in the bottom of the 7th inning in a must to stay on top of the State League. All of the team starters had at least one run batted in and the 15 hit attack was led by Dave Hoch, Roger Hansen and Don Tarbet who all had three hits each. Hansen and Tarbet each had two Doubles, Hoch one and Jan Hall one also. Attending this special event were many, friends and relatives. Those attending were Albertina Pendelton of Lpgan, grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Grant Pendelton of Tooele, and Mr. and Mrs. Chuck Clingman and their children Mark, Chuck and Laura also of Tooele, an uncle and aunt Mr. and Mrs. Dave Coin and son Keri of Ogden, as well as uncle Frank Pendelton of Tooele also attended. A cousin to the baby Travis Leslie Russell of Logan as well as an uncle and aunt Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Cisco of Richfield and Mr. and Mrs. Craig Pendelton of Logan and their small son Christin. Mr. and Mrs. Ron Pendelton of Los Angeles, California and two small children Jared and Peggy Lee were thrilled to be able to attend. Receiving her confirmation in the LDS church in the Trenton Ward fast and testimony meeting on August 1, was Rachelle Cottle, oldest daughter of Edward and Janet Cottle. Rachelles confirmation and blessing was pronounced by her father with grandfathers Leland Cottle and Glen Griffen assisting and great grandfathers Pitcher and Aubrey Melvin Griffen also assisting. After six years of dedicated service the Primary Presidency of the Trenton Ward were released recently in sacrament' services. Released as President was Orris Mae Hansen, Janis Griffen and Ruth Spackman as Counselors. Opal Christensen was released as Secretary. A new Presidency will be sustained in the weeks to come. In the 3 days they were gone they saw the flood area in Rexburg, visited the Teton Dam and Sugar City where 125 homes were almost demolished. SMITHFIELD 11 TOOELE 19 In a game which the Blue Sox apparently had won they had to hang on to get the win. The Sox had a 11 to 3 lead going into the bottom of the fifth but Tooele sewed 3 in the 5th and 4 in the 7th and had two more runners m when Don Tarbet struck out the last batter to save the win. Tarbet had come in relief again this game in the 5th inning to save the win for Sam Borgogna. Randy Hunt Susan and David Peterson and family Dee Anna, Michelle and Jeremiah of Missoula, Montana stayed 10 days with her mother, Mrs. Beth Lamb. They also visited his parents Vance and Shirley Peterson in Newton. They also spent 3 days in Salt Lake City with friends, visited an uncle and aunt, Claudia and Lew McCann. Also present were Mrs. Lamb, Laura Lou Campbell and daughter Jean of Richmond. The McCanns had just moved into their new home in Sunday School. Teaching the youth of the Senior Sunday School will be Ila Litz, Mark Grant, pres. Clarence Andersen, Charles Spackman and LeAnn Kupfer. New Officers sustained were Arlene Kupfer as Secretary of the Junior Sunday School, and Pauline Jensen as Inservice leader. The Merri Miss class of Primary organization made a presentation in Sacrament meeting this past Sunday. Class members who gave talks explaining the Merri Miss program were Melody Smith, Charlotte Godfrey, Chelese Kupfer, Melanie Griffen, and Tonja Buttars. The girls also sung the Merri Miss Song, and Bishop Glade Griffen presented them with their Primary Graduation certificates. Lisa Tillotsen was absent. Her mother accepted the certificate for her. The girls teacher is Mrs. Velda Spackman. A sustaining vote was ask for the advancement of Bat Spackman to the Office of a Priest in the Aaronic Priesthood and also for advancement of Scott Glen Hepner to that of a Teacher in the Aaronic Priesthood. Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Grant were pleased to have as their guest for a few days Miss Lorene Hinton of Hurri-caiUtah. Miss Hinton is engaged to their son Mark. They are planning an August 19 marriage in the St. George Temple. Returning to visit in his hometown this past weekend was Lionel Boisen. Lionel and his wife Donna and their five children live in Denver, Colorado. Members of the ward were pleased to hear the brief comments he made in their Sacramental services on Sunday. Curtis Andersen Receives Eagle Curtis Andersen, 15, son of Donald and Ann Marie Atkinson, 215 Summit Drive, Smithfleld, has been awarded the Eagle Scout badge. Curtis is a member of Troop 88, sponsored by the Smithfleld Sixth Ward, is a sophomore student at Sky View high school. His scoutmaster is Gerald Merrill. He has brothers and sisters, Kristen, Allison, Amy Joan and Dalian. Grandparents include Vivian and Max Muir, Brigham City; Lola and Floyd Andersen, Brigham City and Nancy and Clifford Atkinson Logan. This is the sixteenth year for the reunion at this same place. Connie and Ben Burger were in charge. A pot luck dinner was enjoyed by 125. Games with nisei and a social afternoon was enjoyed. They fished, went swimming, and went horseback riding. Also spent me day at Virginia City. Clem and Dm Dailey attended the Pageant in Manti, then did some shopping and sightseeing in Tijuana, Mexico, to the zoo in San Diego, took a harbor cruise and got to see Marineland. . They traveled up the coast, went swimming in the ocean and did some camping in their camper. They visited Mr. Dailey's brother Da and John Dailey and son Jeff in San Lerenzo. In San Francisco they went to Fishermans Warf; Golden Gate Park; on the bridges and China Town, shopped.
