We must show emotion during the nations bicentennial, but we must also deal with facts, said McKay. We must learn history or we'll have to relive it. McKay then told of the events leading up to Americas stand for democracy and freedom. In order to get a feeling of ' the way things were we must know of the Magna Carta, the Mayflower Compact or what role King George III played in pushing the patriots to their limits. Even after the Constitution was written members of the committee felt another Constitution was needed to explain the first tme. Kiwanis Holds v Ladies Night Del Monte Employees The Kiwanis Club held their Ladies" night Thursday evening. A recent awards banquet was held at the Juniper Inn for Del Monte employees and their wives from Smithfield, Franklin, Burley and Clearfield plants. There were Jso employees bom the Ogden, divisional office present.' Paul Sharp of the Ogden Del Monte divisional office presented a 35 vear service pin to Ardith M. Farrell. Farrell retired on May 1st as Superintendent of the Franklin Plant. ' ' C. Elmer Porter was pre- - sented with a 35 year service pin. He retired recently as shift supervisor Monte employees: Gene C. Clark, Smithfield plant, 20 years; Darwin A. Neal, Smithfield plant, 25 years; John D. Eskelson, Smithfield plant, 20 years; Martin R. Veibell, Smithfield plant, 20 years ; S. Calvin Parkinson; at the Franklin plant. They were also presented with gifts of appreciation for their years of service. Citizen Photo The Mormon Battalion had their float in the Independence Day parade in Hyrum Monday. Riding on the float were Earl Gordon, portraying President Brigham Young and Earl Hansen as Lt. Col. James Allen who had come to recruit 500 men for the Mormon Battalion trek west. Pearl Gordon, Vivian Astle, and Julia Muir were pioneer ladies with a handcart Melvin Muir acted as an aide to Lt. Col. Allen. The float was decorated with sage brush, a hand cart and a tripod fire with cook pots hanging on it The rockers Mr. Gordon and Mr. Hansen sat on were 90 years old and the ones Mrs. Gordon and Mrs. Astle sat on were 80 years old. All the men were in Mormon Battalion uniforms and the ladies in pioneer dresses and bonnets.
