The club has spent several years on the Book of Mormon. This year they have studied the Bible. president. Each member brought a dish made from their favorite recipe and a social hour was spent and the dishes enjoyed. Those present were Le-- North Cache Josie Jorgensen Students Awarded Last Victor Mortensen V. J.Mortnsn Victor Julius Mortensen, 84, died Wednesday at Sun- -' shine Terrace of natural causes. He was born Jan. 2, 1891, in Cleveland, Emery County, a son of Christian mid Kirstine Hansen Mortensen. He married Lula Roskelley Feb. 28, 1928, in Logan LDS Temple. Mr. Mortensen received his early education in Emery County Schools, had attended Utah State University, and was author of a family Memories of Our book, Mother, He farmed for 47 years in Cleveland, and in 1938 moved his family to Smithfield where he owned and operated a coal business until his retirement. A member of the LDS Church, Mr. Mortensen was a High Priest in Smithfield Seventh Ward. He had filled a mission to California from 1919-2- 1, was a branch presi- dent in San Bernardino, and had . served as YMMIA superintendent and ward chorister. He also had been a teacher in the Aaronic and in Sunday priesthood School. Surviving are his widow, Smithfield; one son and two daughters, Victor Harvey Mortensen, Anaheim, Calif.; Mrs. Robert L. (LuJcan) Leake, Salt Lake (Sty, and Mrs. Bruce A. (Eunice) Bar-- , rett Jr., Orem; 20 grand- children, and one sister, Mrs. Vere (Emeline) King, Dragerton. Burial was in the Cemetery. E. For the American Legion Essay Contest, Karen Jokei-fe- r received first place, Cindy Barker received second place, and Matt Peterson received third place. The Industrial Award went to Dale Bucks ton. There was a tie for the Math Award. The winners were Brent Allen and James Shape. Hie Type Awards went to Randy Larsen and Shannon Butters. Last week the North Cache student body voted for their favorite candidate for school leadership. The winners are Brad Rich, president; Todd Benson, vice president; Lynanne Luncherini, secretary; Kris Webb, historian. The cheerleaders are Laura Thorley, Wendi Christiansen, Sandra Spackman, Kaylene Kerr, Connie Maughan, Shelley Aucy, Amy McBride, and Karen Jones. Were looking forward to a great year next year at North Cache. Josie Jorgensen, Jolyn Spackman and Ruth Bergeson, with Debbie Robinson as alternate, have been selected by the Lewiston American Legion Auxiliary to attend Utah Girls ' State which will be held on the campus of Utah State College of Southern Utah in Cedar City. All the girls are juniors at Sky View High School. At Girls State they will be learning about the processes of democratic government through participation. They Wood, will compaign for office and hold elections, forming city, county and state govern- Coy ments. Josie, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Claire Jorgensen, was ninth grade vice president at North Cache Junior High. At Sky View, she is a member of Vistauns and the Ski Club and has been a twirier with the Sky View Marching Band. She serves in the music department in her ward Sunday School. Her interests are sports, sewing, piano and flute. ' Maid president arid is now first counselor in the Laurel class. At Sky. View she is involved in Key Club, Spirit Club, FHA as an officer, student director of the school play, and is on the seminary council. Ruth, a daughter of Omar and Darina Lu Bergeson, is a member of the DECA Club and participates in competitive sports. Her interests are piano and sports. She teaches a class in Sunday School. Jolyn, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. Robert Wood, has been first counselor of Mia Maids and is now Laurel president of her ward. She likes cooking, sewing, music and outdoor sports. She is a member of the Spirit Club at Sky View High School. . Coy Spackman, daughter Mr. and Mrs. Robert J. Haney and the late Gale Spackman, enjoys sewing, cooking, . sports and being outdoors. He was bom June 17, 1905, in Lewiston, a son of Willard Arthur and Priscilla Margaret Payne VanOrden. On Nov. 23, 1927, he marri- ed Venna Allen in the Logan LDS Temple. She died Dec. 31, 1969. He married Alta Rawlins Rigby Sept. 1, 1972, in Smithfield. She enjoys sewing, cooking, all kinds of sports, especially the outdoor variety. She likes to play the guitar and sing. Pioneer Homeland Awards for the girls P.E. At the time of his death he was a High Priest in the Lewiston Fourth Ward. He had served in the Lewiston Fourth Ward bishopric, in the Sunday School superintendency, as general secretary of the Aaronic Priesthood, as Priest advisor and as dance director in the MIA for many years. Surviving are his widow, me son, Neal A. VanOrden, Lewiston, and three daughters, Mrs. Rodney (Donna) Dahle, Lewiston; Mrs. Claire (Diane) Jorgensen, Lewiston, and Mrs. Robert (Elaine) Barton, Rogerson, Idaho. A son Willard and a daughter Sue preceded him. in death.
