Show 4 THE CITIZEN THURSDAY, MAT 1, 1975 OBITUARIES Funeral services were conducted' for Pearl Summers Funeral services were held Friday for Mike Balen, 55, at the Chester LDS Ward chapel, Sanpete County. He died April 22, 1975 of a heart ailment. He was born January 10, 1920 in Helper, Carbon County to Tony and Lucy Boritch Balen. He was raised by Sarah and Rodney Irving following the death of his mother. He was a member of the LDS Church, veteran of World War II and the Korean war. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, was awarded the Bronze Star, Silver Star, Purple Heart with cluster. , in 1951. Mrs. Bankhead had been active in the LDS Church, having served in the Relief Society presidency, in the Primary, and as old folks committee chairman in the Avon ward. Also, she was a member of the Peter Mau-gha- n Camp. Daughters of Utah Pioneers, in Wellsville. Surviving are seven daughters: Mrs. Pearl Williamson Stoddard, Hyrum; Mrs. Ronald (LaRue) Plowman, d; Literary Club had its closing social Thursday. They had lunch at the I op 'N Pins Lanes in Preston, Idaho. Mrs. Cannon, of Roskelley Lund-quis- t, 64, of 1392 East 1900 North, North Logan, died Tuesday in a Logan hospital following a long illness. She was born June 30, 1910, in Smithfield, a daughter of Richard and Hilda Marie Johnson Roskelley. She married Eugene B. Lundquist Oct. 9, 1931, in Logan LDS Temple. . Active in church and civic affairs, Mrs. Lundquist had served as ward organist, counselor in the MIA, Relief Society president, work director and spiritual living instructor. Recognized as an accomplished piano and organ instructor, she also wrote poetry, and was a membgy of the Amigas Club and the 'Amovila Club. Reared in Smithfield, Mrs. Lundquist graduated from North Cache High in 1928,' and received a two-yecertificate from Utah State University in 1930. She had taught school in Smithfield for one year. Survivors include her husband of North, Logan; three daughters,1 Louise and Julie Ann, North Logan, and Mrs. David F. (Joyce) Meldrun, Seattle, Wash.; one son, Stephen E. Lundquist, Sherman Oaks, Calif.; nine grandchildren; one brother, Richard Welling Roskelley, North Logan; two sisters, Mrs. William (Ruth) Row-leRichfield, and Mrs. Benjamin (Kathryn) Thomas, Salt Lake (Sty. Two sisters and two brothers preceded her in death. Burial was in the Smith- field Cemetery. one City Arden Cleon Balls, 66, of North 1st East, Brigham City, died Tuesday at Naugh-to- n Reservoir, Kemmercr, Wyo., of an apparent heart Aug.' 27, 1908, in Hyde Park,- the son of Heber and Tomena Kirstine Nielsen Balls. He married Harriet Woolf Dec. 29, 1927, in Ogden. The marriage was solemnized in Logan LDS Temple April 1, 1963. Mr. Balls was reared in Hyde Park, and was a carpenter for 35 years before retiring four years ago. He spent 23 years in government - employ at Intermountain School and while on assignment for the government in New Mexico, received a citation. He was financial' great- was chosen recently. Sum- cemetery. Mclva Kicks Mecham, 56, 1225 West 9000 South, native of Cache Valley, died Tuesday in a Salt Lake hospital after a short illness. She was born Oct. 21, 1918, in Benson, a daughter of Joel , and Florence Porter chapel. Additional services were held at the Nelson Funeral Home in Logan Saturday at 3 p.m. Mrs. Bergeson was a form- er Smithfield resident, living on First East Street a number of years and then moving to Logan where she resided 35 years before ynoving to Bountiful. She died Wednesday in a Bountiful hospital of cardiac arrest following a lingering illness. She was bom June 7, 1896, in.
