Diane. Chad and Geniel, have recently visited with their daughter and sister, Julie, and her husband, Cory Fewkes, at their home in Granger, Utah. Wayne and Melanie Mar-le- r welcomed a new son into their family circle on SaturHosday at the McKay-De- e pital in Ogden. Their other children are Wade and Stephanie. The Marlers live in North Ogden. Mr. and Mrs. McKay Mar-le- r, Wayne's parents, now have seven grandchildren. Sandra and Robert Bliss Vickie and Ryan, were here from their home in Coke-villWyo., where Mr. Bliss is Superintendent of schools. Clair and Judy Troseth and their family, Tania, Todd, Tracie, Thad and Trudy, came from Rupert, Idaho, where they reside. Elaine and Eldred Caldwell and e, their children, CAROLYN McKNIGHT has a lot of interests and although she says she doesnt usually have much time for cooking she thinks you'll like these recipes. Darren, Michall, Mark and Shauna, came from Kansas City, where they make their home. Recent weekend gusts of Bishop and Mrs. Boyce Pitcher and their family were Visit Sister . .Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Fifield of Whittier. Calif., visited with his sister, Blanche, and her husband. McKay Marler Saturday. Accompanying Mrs. Pitcher's mother, grandmother and sister: i ; Carolyn McKnight is an active lady. She enjoys all kinds of sports and claims that the family activities are very active indeed. Carolyn and two of her three children play softball regularly, so much of the family togetherness time is spent at ball games. She was born and raised in Lewiston, and married Larry McKnight. Carolyn is active in civic affairs. She is active in most Lions affiliated programs and is the secretary of the Primary organization. She has been involved in the cub scout program for several years. She is a choir member and has been a stake official in the sports Mrs. Verda Malin, Scottsdale, Ariz.; Mrs. Myrtle Hatch, Safford, Ariz.; Miss Judy Bentley, Provo, a student at BYU. Brett Ehlers, Salt Lake City, was also at the Pitcher home for the weekend. program. Besides her civic and church responsibilities Carolyn finds time for all the necessities and extras around the house. She says that she cans just about everything and enjoys sewing and gardening. Jeryl and Karen Marler and their three children of North Ogden, were Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. McKay Marler, Jeryls parents. Miss Kristi Marler is visiting in Ogden for several days. Last week she entertained at a bridal shower at Lady Book Club Meets President Wilda Plowman welcomed members and Lisbon is quite thickly populated, fishing is quite popular, has losts of old buildings and cathaderals, has very narrow streets in the old section (the new section is wider.) Idaho attended meeting Sunday in the Lewiston Second Ward. Last week the Mia Maids of Lewiston Second Ward went to Salt Lake City where they presented a quilt, which the girls had tied, to the Primary Childrens Hospit- al. They were impressed with the exhibits which they saw at the LDS Visitors Center and with their tour of the new church office building. They went to the Hogle Zoo. the Bee Hive House, and (Continued on page 6) then to Dakar, Africa which is very colorful. They then flew to Monrovia, Liberia to Abidjan the Ivory Coast. West Africa. They saw so much ivory that was so expensive. Then Accra in Ghana. Then back to York City and Salt . Lake City. They were gone three weeks. Mr. and Mrs. Hoggan would have like to have visited two or three more places but time got short. Mrs. Hoggan said, "The African people are wonderful. - . Lu Ann Griffin of Trenton. A tray luncheon was served by Mrs. Gittins to ten members and four guests. Myers Welcome New Son Baby Myers arrived at the Logan LDS hospital August 7. a son of MarJean and Warren Myres. They live on U.S. Highway 91, south of Richmond. The liaby weighed seven pounds 13 ounces and was 21 inches long. He is their first child. Grandparents include Ina and Edwin Andersen. Rich mond and Mona and William L. Myers of Hyrum. Zucchini Bread 3 eggs cup shortening 2 cups sugar 2 cups grated peeled zucchini 3 teaspoons vanilla 3 cups sifted flour 1 teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon soda 3 teaspoons cinnamon 4 teaspoon baking powder Mi cup nuts Beat eggs until foamy, add shortening, sugar, zucchini, vanilla and mix lightly. Sift together salt, soda, cinnamon, flour and baking soda. Add to mixture. Mix well, add nuts. Pour batter into greased and floured loaf pans. Bake at 325 degrees for one hour. Cool. Makes two loaves. 1 For a rich and delicious summertime dessert try this Hawaii Five-- 0 Torte. Hawaii Five-1 Torte . flour cup sifted cup butter or margarine cup finely ground pecans or hickory nuts cup flaked coconut (1 lb. 4 oz.) can unsweetened crushed pineapple envelope unflavored gelatin 4 cup cold water (43,4 oz.) package lemon pie filling 4 cup sugar egg yolks cup dairy sour cream 43 1 1 1 3 1 Meringue Powdered sugar Preheat oven to moderate (350 degrees F.). Combine flour, butler, nuts and coconut, and blend to crumb consistency. Press in even layer in bottom of square baking pan. Bake in preheated oven 20 minutes until very lightly browned. Cool. Drain juice from pineapple and add water to measure 2 cups. Soften gelatin in 4 cup water. Prepare lemon pie filling with sugar and egg yolks, reducing liquid to the 2 cups pineapple juice and water. Cook until smooth and thick, stirring constantly. Remove from heat, add softened gelatin, and stir until dissolved. Fold in the drained pineapple. Cool 10 minutes, stirring 'occasionally. Preheat oven to very hot (500 degrees F.). Fold sour cream into pudding mixture, and turn into cooled crust. Prepare meringue and spread over filling. Place in the very hot oven, tum the heat off at once, and allow torte to remain in oven for several hours, until it is completely cold. Remove torte from oven, and sift powdered sugar over top. Chill several hours before torte, 6 to 9 servings. serving. Makes 1 Meringue : Beat 3 egg whites with Mi teaspoon cream of tartar to a fine foam. Gradually beat in l',4 cups sifted powdered sugar, continuing to beat at high speed until very stiff and shiny. I Humphreys Greet Baby Dauna and Richard C. That evening there will lie an open house at the Smithfield Third Ward. 91 East 2nd South, from 7:30 to 9:30. All friends and relatives are invited ti attend.
