JUNE CITIZEN THE 28 1973 Smithfield Legion Splits Logan Doubleheader a 0 The Smithfield American Legion team traveled to Logan Friday night only to split a doubleheader and drop a game behind Brigham in a race for a spot at the state tournament. In the first game Smithfield came on strong, beating Logan Smithfield scored first in the second inning when Louie Tripp walked and Larry Payne reached first on an error, sending Tripp to third. Jay Pitcher followed with a sharp hit into center field driving in the two baserunners. Logan came back in their half of the inning with Billy Calder-woo- d hitting a long triple to center field and scoring on an top of the sixth. The comeback was rapidly followed by a Logan run picked up in the bottom of the inning. Don Tarbet continued to pitch well for Smithfield, but didnt 6-- 2. By Sybil Packer Valerie and Sharia Nelson have returned from a two week vacation in Hawaii as part of the Ross Allen tour. Their stay included a visit to all four of the main islands. On Hawaii, the largest of the islands, they were impressed with the huge volcanos. They were shown slides of the recent volcano and were able to pick up pieces of lava from the street where it had flowed. On Maui they saw a whaling town, the largest banyan tree in the w'ld and the natural rock formation of the profile of John F. Kennedy. Kauai will be remembered for its beautiful Grand Canyon and a helicopter flight over the cliffs. The girls had fun body surfing on Oahu, and visiting the pineapple factories there. The family attended church in the Hilo ward and were feted with a farewell luau by the ward members. Lynn and Andrea Larsen will be moving soon to Mesa, Ariz., where Lynn has secured employment. Visitors at the home of the Kenneth Nielsens were Mr. and Mrs. Archie L. Izatt of Fre-- 1 mont. Calif. Garth and Shirley Larsen and daughters are enjoying a combined vacation and business trip to Jackson Hole, Wyo. Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Bell and family spent three days vacationing and visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Homer Pittard in Mountain Home, Ida. Ralph and Ethel Greene visited with their son and his family, Mr. and Mrs. Dee Greene in Pocatello Thursday and Friday. Their grandson. Jeff, returned to Smithfield to spend a week or two with his grandparents. Dee and family were Saturday visitors al the Greene home. Gary Franklin, son of Irma and Donald Franklin. Ogden, was a visitor at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Orvii Coleman, his grandparents, during the weekend. Mrs. Franklin came to get him Sunday and stayed until Monday. The Sunday School class of Ixon Pack presented (he sacrament services Sunday. Talks by class memlters Michael Harris. Thad Forrester and Diana Harris and Mr. Pack were themed around the Book of Mormon. Mr. and Mrs. Kolicrt Gardner and son. Jason, of Bothell. Wash., have been visiting with the Bowers Forresters. Jimmy Forester, who lives in Los Alamedes, Calif., joined them for one day of their vacation there. Lionel Danielson returned to his home for a brief visit before returning with his son, Kay, to Lovell, Wyo. Kay came to attend June conference. Lionel also attended the ceremonies in Roy where his grandson, John Coleman, received his Eagle Scout award. Mary Coleman and baby were visitors at the Danielson home Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Bodrero of Logan were visitors Sunday at the home of Mrs. Bodrero's mother, Mrs. Lavinna Deppe. Mrs. Afton Johnson of Rosemead, Calif., was visiting at the home of her sister, Mrs. Myrle Johnson, for over a month. Her husband had been here for two weeks. The Johnson's returned to their home Monday. Mr. Johnson is a brother of Myrle's and Mrs. Johnson is a sister of Ruby's. Mrs. Lavinna C. Deppe, Mrs. Berniece Clawson and Richard Clawson attended the recent wedding reception for Mr. and Mrs. Robert Lee Burrows at the Seville in Taylorsville, Ut. The new Mrs. Burrows, the former Deana Deppe, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hazen Deppe of Salt Lake City. The Burrows will make their home in Fairbanks. Alaska. Mrs. Joan Dietz of Seattle, Wash., spent the weekend with her mother, Mrs. Laura Petersen. Jay Greene and Lorraine Nelson participated in the MIA dance festival Friday and Saturday nights in Rice Stadium at the University of Utah. Sybil Packer attended the conference also. Trenton News Mrs. Elaine Harding of Salmon. Ida., was a guest of her parents. Mr. and Mrs. William V. Cnnnary last weekend. Andrew Peterson of Moroni and his fiancee were dinner guests Sunday of his brother and wife. Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Peterson. Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Holt attended the wedding and reception of a nephew. Though there are no adjacent neighbors, board members pointed out that a two foot allowance for a roof overhang is usually necessary. As planned the roof would slightly overhang an irrigation ditch owned by the Logan Northern Canal Co. Members of the board agreed to talk with officials of the company before making a decision.
