But there was information in the computerized budget that met the request of the joint committee and without question, the agencies believed it was available in proper form for that committee. The agencies, which devoted so much time last year to gathering information to be chewed into the computer, now find themselves required to present budget information in still a different, albeit simpler, form to be chewed by the joint committee. Andrus and the joint committee are moving down an austerity path. Except it might not be as austere as some agencies might think. If the state agencies receive in the next fiscal year approximately what they are spending this year, with per haps some adjustment for cost increases, the austerity is indeed minimal. It is unfortunate that Budget Bureau and the Division of Management Services, which operates the computer, did not have austerity in mind. The cost of programming and assembling budget information that is unusable was a great waste of time, effort If someone and money. thought points were being made for the giant and costly centralized computer, he also made a gross error.
