Most GOP pros believe the state assembly will endorse State Sen. Orval Hansen of Idaho Falls, State Sen. Don Loveland of Burley and form er 'District Judge Lloyd Webb of Twin Falls. Of course, in politics any thing can happen and other GOP candidates may have to be reckoned with. Probate Judge Mary Adams of Idaho Falls seems to be intent on getting into the race. George Forschler of Burley has pe titions out and still another person could come out of the woodwork. Dr. Evan M. Kackley, Soda Springs, who resigned as a member of the Idaho Water Resource Board, took out nominating petitions but declined to say for whom. There was a report for a time that Kackley's candidate is State Sen. ltcod Budge of Soda Springs. Hansen, the Republican nominee in 1962 and defeated by former Democratic Rep. Ralph Harding, didn't take long to make up his mind to try again for the office afta former state Sen. Dick Smith of Rexburg changed his mind about running. Since a candidate must receive more than 20 percent oi the delegate votes from the Second District to be endors ed by the state assembly, a prerequisite to get on the pri mary election ballot, it is unlikely that more than three can make the grade. It is possible for four candidates to be endorsed, but the pros of both parties have never thought the delegate voting would be so equal. As far as I can determine there will be no effort to obtain a heavy majority of delegates for one candidate in an effort to cut the field to just two candidates. The law says that if more than one candidate files for an office, the state assembly must endorse at least two candidates. There is one Democrat who really wants to run for Con gress, but I have a feeling he doesn't want to get into a nomination contest. Former State Rep. Rampton Barlow of Pocatello has said severa.
