Show THE SALT LAKE TIMES Snow Goose Banding Under Way in Utah A cooperative conservation project to rehabilitate over 1,200 acres of prime range in Muskrat Canyon on the west slope of the Stansbury Mountains was completed March 23. The area was burned last August. The project was unique in that for the first time, sportsmen, livestock men, recreational land users and state and federal wild life and land agencies worked together to rehabilitate an area. The Division of Wildlife Resources, Salt Lake District of the Bureau of Land Management, BLM Advisory Board composed of cattlemen, wool growers and a sportsman and the Utah Recreational Land Users funded the project. Some 16,000 browse seedlings were hand planted by the Boy Scouts and members of land use groups. Break down of the seedlings was as follows: 10,000 550 cliff rose, and 500 four wing saltbush. These Boy Scouts learned how to properly plant the seedlings in two training sessions. Last fall 14,000 pounds of the grasses, frobs and browse plants were aerially seeded. Sheep of near by ranches were used to trample the seed into th ground. The project supplemented that planting. The area will be fenced by the BLM.
