Show THE SALT LAKE TIMES Not Only at Holiday Season But Always Think of Driving Hazard For over per cent of all drivers this season, 50 American liquor will be part of the celebration. For some,' drinking and driving go together all year, but for many others this time of the year is the only time when driving and liquor are paired. Both of these groups are not necessarily all bad guys or maniacs when they hit the road. To show what must be considered before judging someone as a real menace, lets put you in a typical situation. Suppose that you have just been to a party where alcohol was served, and you are ready to put your keys in the ignition. Should you? Before you drive off, stop and think about these things: First, forget how youre feeling right now. Chances are youre feeling great and confident in your ability to drive, but too often after drinking alcohol, feelings and actual ability dont match, says the Utah Safety Council. That self satisfied con tentment could disappear fast if you couldnt react fast enough to avoid a sobering crash. So feelings aside, lets look at some facts. How much have you had to drink, and how much time have you had to drink it in? Of course the less you drink and the longer the time youve had to drink it, the better it is for you and other people who share these highways with you. In Utah you could be convicted of drunk driving with .08 per cent alcohol in your blood. This means about one drink in an hour, each containing one ounce of alcohol for a person weighing 160 lbs, but OMV Page Three FRIDAY, JANUARY 5, 1973 South Jordan Girl Models in Magazine New Science Academy Sparks Interest in Natural History Is Dana Holt of South Jordan. The length of time since your last drink should also be considered. If yoUr host was safety conscious and planned ahead, you shouldnt have had a drink fer at least one hour. Instead of drinking alcohol during the last hour you should have been on coffee and snacking on food. A wise host knows that something sweet to eat kills the appetite for liquor so may have served a desert type snack. A meal before drinking begins or food served while the party is going on also greatly reduces the blood alcohol concentration. Fatty foods like milk or olive oil and bulky foods like bread and mashed potatoes can reduce the concentration to up to one half. Only time will totally eliminate the alcohol in your body, food and a period of time between drinking and driving help burn off the last drink. So if you were sticking to the rule of one drink per hour after an extra hour of non drinking you could be in fairly good shape to drive home. lLE IT F05 To E IMPORTANT CToCKHOLPER--WlTHOU- T EVEN KNOWING IT WHILE OVER PEOPLE OWN INTERNATIONAL TELE PHONE AMP TELE&RAPH CORPORATION ITOCIC PlREGTLY.
