This campaign will emphasize the importance of the office . i J f f Salt Lake County has been able to increase its spending budget by $1.8 million, but also cut the personal property tax by 1.08 mills. The action came from a meeting with County Auditor Gerald R. Hansen and the three members of the county commission. The cut has been made possible through increased revenues in areas other than property taxes. This years tax levy will be 20.74 mills compared to last years levy of 21.82 mills. One catch to the reduction of the tax levy is the increase of $26 million in total assessed valuation of property, which means that close to one half of the a i f i i J J F I i county levy reduction will be absorbed by by inflation. Salt Lake County is one of three districts which lowered Committee Report on Children Disagreed With by Governor The Governors Committee on Children and Youth presented the governor with a report which called for the legalization of marijuana and increased sex education in the schools and a deemphasis on institutional religion in favor of personal religion. In receiving the report, the Governor said that he disagreed with the recommendation of the legalization of marijuana and the sex education. The governor said that in response to the religion of institutional religion that the committee was not attacking the religion itself but want the matter of religion. The governor said with respect to religion, I favor increased participation in organized religion rather than decreased participation, but I dont think that the report is attacking institutional religion. I think that they are saying that each individual should develop a personal commitment to his religion. I am in favor of that. The governor said that he liked many of the recommendations of the advisory committee, which stress training in our society.
