Show THE SALT LAKE TIMES Catfishes Popular And Widespread Experts Declare Catfishes as a group are among the most prevalent fish in the world, represented by members of one or more of the 11 known families on all continents. They get their name from the fleshy barbels extending from around the mouth, usually dubbed whiskers, much like those hairy appendages extending in the cats jaw. Their bodies, as anyone who has struggled to skin them will attest, do not have scales, the outer protection consisting of a thick slippery skin. Spines protrude from side fins near the gills and from the back of catfishes. These are a source of pronounced discomfort to any one coming in contact with them; the spines are sharply pointed and covered with a secret poison. Despite the prick of the spines millions of anglers of all ages in all part of the U.S. seek cats in every conceivable type of warm to moderately cool fresh water. The toxic quality of the spines also does not affect flesh of cat fishes, long a traditional delicacy, and sometimes a staple, particularly in the Mississippi Valley. But the favorite eating fish is the channel cat. With the help of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, state agencies, channel catfish farming for both sport and commerce now is a multi million dollar in- P0 FRIDAY, APRIL 16, 1971 Homemaker Is Frequent Buyer Of Insurance While the great bulk of life insurance protection is purchased by the breadwinner, a steadily increasing number of families have bought life insurance on that other important family member the homemaker. Off all the women who buy life insurance, homemakers are the most frequent purchasers of policies, judging by a new survey of buyers of ordinary life insurance the type that is the basis for most family protection programs. Whether a woman works at a job outside the home or not, she buys life insurance for much the same reasons as men: to protect their families. Every wife is a homemaker, and as such she makes a tangible contribution to her family that can be measured in dollars and hence can be protected by life insurance. Nothing can replace the loss of a loved one. What life insurance can do is to provide funds that will help a father pay for child care and housekeeping services. Whefi a woman purchases life insurance she thinks in terms of permanent rather than temporary protection, surveys indicate. The type of policy bought most often by women is limited payment insurance, in which payment of premiums is completed in a given span of time, say 15 or 20 years. Although there are no further premiums to be paid, the protection under the policy continues as long as the policyholder lives. Straight life policies are the type bought next most often by women. Here premiums are payable over the lifetime of the policyholder. Premiums on a straight life policy are smaller dustry spreading rapidly. A wide variety of catfish live in clean or muddy waters and are able to withstand sofhe domestic pollution. They are as tenacious in hanging onto habitat as carp, and fed on live and dead food of a wide variety. Whiskers help the cats feel their way to food items in the turbid waters during day or night. Although the cats are called anglers from all walks of life the poor mans fish because of attest to their importance in the simple tackle required, hordes of United States. GRASS: DONT FAKE IT than on a limited payment policy because they are spread out over a longer period. Endowment policies are next most popular with women. An endowment is primarily a savings plan protected by life insurance. Premiums are paid only for a given period of time, say 15 or 20 years, after which the insurance ceases and the policyholder receives the amount written on the face of the policy. If the policyholder were to die before the end of the payment period, her beneficiary would receive the full face value. All permanent life insurance policies have one feature in common: cash value. This value begins to accumulate soon after the purchase of the policy, and increases with each premium payment. In a family emergency a loan can be made on the basis of the cash value of a policy, but there are other uses of these values. For example, many policyholders, as they approach retirement age, find there is enough cash value in their life insurance to provide them with a tidy income to supplement pension benefits and Social Security payments. As might be expected, most women who buy life insurance obtain their policies at the younger ages. In fact, about 44 per cent of womens policies are bought for girls below the age of twenty, many of course being purchased directly by older girls themselves. Women in their twenties buy about 19 per cent of policies, and women in their thirties about 15 per cent. Women beyond forty buy 22 per cent of new policies. What these figures indicate is that parents frequently buy life insurance for their young daughters with an eye to presenting them with an established policy at the very low premium rates that only youth can obtain. As women grow older they continue to buy life insurance, whether or not they marry (56 per cent of womens policies are home owners Spa Expansion Announced in S.L. BUSINESS all-weat- P. Lloyd joined Rep. of a Tuesday in bill to tighten inspection standards on meat and meat products imported Into the U.S. from the foreign processors. The Utahn said that within the 40 foreign countries presently importing meat products into his country, the Department of Agriculture has only 15 veterinarians to inspect over 1100 processing plants. While inspection laws and standards have been upgraded for both federal and state governments on meat produced domestically, the same rigid standards do not apply to the foreign products. Obviously if our consumers are to be fully protected from diseased and unwholesome meat, the same standards should apply to imported products, he said. Rep. Lloyd said the bill would direct the Secretary of Agriculture to establish inspection procedures to insure that each foreign plant exporting meat to the U.S. was inspected at least four times a year on an an unan-ouncbasis. Inspection would also be increased at the point of enry into the U.S. This legislation puts both domestic and foreign producers, under the same set of rules and will give the consumer greater confidence in all meat products, he said. ed The 12 shows, presented each Tuesday afternoon to June 22 will include such topics as sizing up the competitive climate; sources of capital; hiring and handling employees; making decisions and sticking to them, and managing insurance, taxes and reporting. Finally, artificial turf does not attract birds because it doesnt play host to the smaller forms of life. A luxuriously green natural grass, such as Merion Kentucky Bluegrass, is a better investment for beautifying and ecological purposes. This tough turf withstands greater wear and tear and needs less water. And from an economical view, Merion is much less expensive to plant and maintain than artificial turf.
