S. model building code groups and the Federal Housing Administration have accepted new lumber sizes and grading rules, and city and county building officials generally are in the process of adapting the changes to local codes. With this report, the Western Wood Products Assn., representing 40 per cent of the countrys softwood lumber output, urged prompt action by permit and inspection agencies to reduce the costly job site delays among the builders. About 60 per cent of WWPA graded production has changed to new sizes and other requirements and deadline for all is on April 1. With them you can play guessing games with all your garden visitors. The vines are tropical and related to the cucumber family. They climb and attach themselves by means of tendrils and balsam apple vines will reach 6 feet upwards during the growing season, even in the North. Because they are natives of the tropics, they must be treated as tender annuals and the seeds either started indoors or planted in the garden after all danger of late frost is past. Balsam apple leaves are from 2-- 4 inches wide, handsomely lobed. The flowers which, while not as important as the odd fruits, are still useful for garden color are yellow, darker in the centers. The apples are and nubby or warty, yellow to orange in coloring, therefore very attractive. Even the seeds are interesting notice them before you plant them. They're flat, greyish or brownish, with scalloped edges. egg-shap- ed Advertising Bids Invited by Council Page Eleven National PTA Alters Bylaws for Youth Reaffirming its long standing commitment to youth, the PTA has proposed one change in Bylaws which would add a new position to each of ts five governing commissions to be filed by young people aged 26 to 20, inclusive. The far reaching change will come to a vote at the National PTA convention to be held in May in Oklahoma City. PTA has been actively involved with youth during the length of its 75 year history, said Mrs. Leon S. Price, National PTA president, and this recent proposal by the Board of Managers is simply another step in the normal progression of our work with young people. Mrs. Price pointed out that the youth members will be bona fide members of the National Board of Managers. We must proyide for a meaningful experience, not token participation, she said. Last year, the Board of Managers abolished any restrictions on students for membership in PTSAs. They recommended the students be given full and equal status with adult members. This recent move to bring young people to the Board is the first such action of a major national organization. When asked what the PTA hopes to accomplish by bringing young people to. the governing n membody of the ber organization, Mrs. Price emphasized that it was to provide a better understanding of how youth really feel and how they see PTA personally. Not how we think they see it, or want to believe they see it, she said. Mrs. Price added that the National PTA wants to proyide the stimulus to states to involve more youth and to provide a source of continuing concrete suggestions on how to better A need involve other youth. involvement exists for deeper of youth not only in all levels of PTA, but in all areas of our society today, she said. multi-millio- No one is free who commands Utah advertising and public chance to share opportunities, not himself.
