Show THE SALT LAKE TIMES Taxpayers Group Issues Gloomy Bulletin Pre-electi- on The Utah Taxpayers Association issued a gloomy Bulletin reporting Utahs total tax load has set an all time new record high of over one billion dollars $1,201,632,696. Breaking this figure down to what an average family pays, they said, Taxes today in Utah are the largest items in the family budget. Direct and hidden taxes take almost 38 of averpre-electi- on age spersonal income, and every time our Government, at one level or another, spends one million dollars, it takes in taxes from the average Utah family another $3.41. Yet, they added, there is a delusion these days that when money comes from Government, it costs nothing. The Associations explanation for this contradiction was, that the best kept secret today in the United States is the size of the whole tax load. The UTA analyst then went on to list Utahs total burden. The Federal Government now takes $755,000,000 or 63 of all taxes collected in the state. In the past ten years, the Federal take has increased 89. It went up 16 just this past year. State taxes, fees, licenses and property taxes now amount to $446,632,696 and account for the other 37 of the total burden. UTA said that these taxes have shot up 125 since 1960 and are 17 higher than those collected wide-sprea- d in fiscal 1969. FRIDAY, OCTOBER 30, 1970 collections increased 19. The Association capped off the report by warning taxpayers to, Identify state legislators and local candidates who are spenders and expansionists. Remember that what government gives, it must first take. Beware of congressional candidates who brag about all the benefits they have bought, or intend to buy for you. 63 of all taxes go to Washington and this is your money thats taking the round trip.
