Show V THE SALT LAKE TIMES FRIDAY, DECEMBER 6, 1968 Juvenile Cun Law Reminder Issued Utah laws regarding the ownership, possession and use of firearms by juveniles should be familiar to all parents as the Christmas gift giving season is near and more outdoor activity is' centered around rabbit hunting and general outdoor plink-ing- . According to fish and game laws, youngsters 12 years of age and older may hunt for game birds and cottontail rabbits in season, but they must have a proper license and be accompanied by an adult 21 years of age or older. At 16 the juvenile is considered an adult insofar as the fish and game laws are concerned and may then purchase and use the adult licenses and hunt without the supervision of an adult. Other state laws prohibit anyone under 14 years of age owning or possessing firearms unless they are accompanied by a parent or guardian. The intent of this legislation is to provide a period of time when youngsters may be taken into the field by an adult to learn safe gun handling habits and hunting techniques in addition to the hunter safety training before they reach an age when they can go into the field alone. Further provisions of the law subject the parent or guardian to arrest for contributing to the delinquency of a minor where they permit the juvenile to violate these laws. Creel limit on all open waters is ten fish. If the fisherman is to have any chance at success he must use small flies or small hooks with bait because the whitefish has a very small mouth and will usually not take the regular trout-sizhooks. Duchesne River downstream from the confluence of the West Fork; Logan River downstream from Temple Fork; Blacksmith Fork downstream from confluence with Rock Creek; and Weber River downstream from Echo Dam are all open to taking of Rocky Mountain Whitefish from now until January 1, 1969, when new regulations will go into effect. Creel limit for resident juveniles under 12 is f the adult limit, this creel limit applies to all species of fish. Fishing licenses remain valid until April 15, 1969, so hang on to that license.
